So, i was asked by a friend to make and paint some of his GK units. I will take a pic of the Dread Knight, but it is mostly built already, and magnetized. The Storm Raven of his was slapped together partially by another who left it in this condition.
[/img]

[/img]

Even blurry, you can see the burr from sprue, and the navigation lights outside where they ought to be.

[/img]

[/img]

Now to fix this travesty and do what i can with file, knife, putty and paint to make it recover from this mess.

That certainly looks like it was not given the love it deserves during construction and I don't like the silly model...

Construction liike that makes me cringe, how well glued together is it? Can you pry it apart without causing to much more damage?

Good luck on fixing that mate you may need it.

It was glued tight in some areas and not so well in others. I did pull apart what i could, but will have to do more work to fix the damage of the deconstruction I had to. Can't do much about the gap at the front ramp area, but the burrs are gone, and the kit has a stronger bonding. This was a rush job that was impatiently slapped together. Better to have just used the base of it as a representation than to be so hasty with it. It does look like a Rhino with wings though doesn't it?

Anyway, Deburred and headlamps where they need to be.
[/img]

compare from before.
[/img]

The underbelly the areas for the back wall that have the landing gear boxes were not even touched by glue! Now there is plenty to hold it. More clean up work will be needed. Why he went with another to get it done I will not understand.
[/img]

Magnetic grapple for real! Neodinium magnets in place. I was given the dreadnought thwat will have the matching magnet on it's top so iut can go with it.

some horrible glue work there... that gap at the ramp looks a serious place for some much needed attention from you...seems this will be a project that wont be over in a hurry...
was the first person that bought and built (for a lack of a better term) at least be a young teenager? possibly with a serious handicap?

will be quite revealing how you fix that all for good!

I am contemplating putty for that gap. He was a neighbor of the owner.
Here is the Dreadnought selected to go on it.

Scraped the paint for the magnet.

Magnet set on top for the needed purpose.

Now i will do what i can, but also, I have decided that my friend is not going to take advantage and get work done cheap or free. he has only paid 20dollars for all of this so far the Raven/Dreadnought, Dread Knight and a Storm lord as well as a mini of the new leader of the
GK I will of course have to discuss payments as I doubt he can pay at once but I am used to working for my own stuff. You guys have seen what I do with things and likely you could assist with the value of the work to be done.

for this i think you should count up the needed manhours.... needless(?) to say materials used should come out of his wallet and not yours...i think this will be not done under 20* manhours on the mere reconstructional work...? and then there is not telling how long the painting might take... if he wants weathered units it will be even more...so for a friendly manhour i would charge from 3 to 5 bucks per hour...if your not best buddies even more...
then you only have to do the maths...
but do ask some more prominet comissioners haround here... there are quite a few around the board...

try to make the price before the work... and he should pay up front like a paypal version without paypal if possible... or do you trust him completly? than this wouldn´t be necessary...but remeber my father told me always: "when it touches money friendships end..."

True Vik, I will let him know the entire batch of work will cost 80lump sum as each piece separately will cost way more.

i think 80 bucks is a fair price for the both of you. doesn´t leave you to being exploited by your friend and him not being forced to pay through the nose...by the way, will the dread thats hanging under the SR also feel your touch? the "I" looks horrible and a sculpted "I" like mikhails shiled "I" could cool pretty sweet at that section...
and by the way... today 80 bucks is nothing to sneeze at^^

As an fyi, if you ever get commissioned to work on a very poorly assembled model again, dunk the thing in superclean for about 3 days then carefully try to pry it apart. I've salvaged countless models this way (Of course if it's modeled with plastic glue your SOL).

Necroshea, thanks, but they used plastic glue.

i read somewhere that this simple green also might dissolve plastic glue?... i don´t know if that is true... seems a bit farfetched as it is infact a chemical boning process...even if the bonding is much better with plastic glue i would go for superglue any time...as snapping is sometimes needed... who knows if not sometime in the future you want to change a mini somehow...only when being super sure about a mini i use plastic glue...

Once the plastic glue sets, the plastic parts are melted and fused together like metal welding.

count up how many hours it takes, and come up with a charge per hour.
plus building materials (I don't care if it just took a teeny blob of GS, or a 1cm x 1cm square of plasticard, he's paying for it!)

Hello, just one thing i reallized when i see the dread hanging on the Raven: why not magnetize the base of that entombed veteran too? That way, it will not look like "carring a piece of terrain with him", when beying transported...

I just think it could add a "touch of finesse" to the entire ideia (who is amazing)...

Oh: and congratulations, you deserve it...

If my post show some BAD spelling issues, please forgive-me, english is not my natural language, and i never received formal education on it...

Well, it does belong to the person asking me to work on the model. He may ask to have that done if he decides to keep the project going after I ask for the payment for the work and time done on it.

And thanks.

this idea is something that makes the whole thing (carrying a dread through the air) for the first time more realistic...can´t think of why no one before came up with that...and i am serious about that.... seeing a fully based dread hanging beneath the SR looks so much foolish otherwise...
shaso, this you have to include in your work description to your friend...

Not how I operate. If he does not want the job done, he will likely take what there is and try to not pay me despite all the work that has been done,. or he will be slow with payments. or he will try to finish the work himself. The dreadnought is an idea as to how that will look when done as his skills are why he approached me. but I think he will pay it once he knows how cheaply he is getting the work done for .

True, that is a reason a stranger would be billed 150.00 for the work being labored over.
