Hey all.. I need to plug into the Dakka Group Mind for something.

I recently got a "first generation" Leman Russ tank in trade. No Instructions. No worries, as I thought it would be as simple as the current Leman Russ...

But it ain't.

Evidently the innards of the track sides are loose wheels, and I don't know how many wheel sprues should be with this tank. I have one sprue, has 2 large wheels, 2 medium, and 12 small... but I suspect there should be double this amount maybe?

Help would be appreciated for this "vintage" assembly issue..

2+2=5 for sufficiently large values of 2.

I had the same issue, but honestly it's not an issue. The wheels generally fit in an intelligent way. The treads are the hard part. The track lengths are roughly the same length as those on the new kit, so you could just try to approximate them. Also, if you've got track guards from the tank accessory sprue, you can cover the inevitable unsightly gaps.

No track guards.. wish I DID have some for exactly that reason.. lol

my main question is .. is there supposed to be one sprue of 12 wheels, or 2.. I suspect I can fudge and glue if need be, but if I need double the wheels I have, then it will be that much harder.

Dry-fit the Wheels(once you start it will all become clear)

Alternately, count the holes along 1 side of the Track assembly walls. I am pretty sure that the Large wheel goes in the lower-front corner, and the medium in the upper-rear... but I may be mistaken on that.

at any rate the Smalls go along the top and bottom.

One poster on another forum managed to get those track assemblies down to just 3 wheels on the Chimeras of the time. You can be efficient with it with some planning.

the wheels inside don't mean much, as long as you get the side pieces spaced apart right the tracks will go on without them. I built russes and chimeras without the wheels and used plastic sprue for spacers before
