Subject: 150 pts DOA Scout Bikers or more Vanguard?

I am currently at a dilemma to make my list 2000 pts for a competitive no comp tourney.
4 scout bikes- sargeant with melta bombs and ocator beacon 3 grenade launchers
or
5 more vanguard allowing me to combat squad 4 th ss 1 lc ss all with jump packs
The scout bikes will be held in reserve so they wont be a free kp, allowing me to do the vanguard beacon combo
or:
more vanguard, meaning a heavier punch on the charge and I double the chance of one coming in?
Im going with scout bikes to hurt mech unless someone can justify using even more vanguard. I play against A LOT of horde and I am already confident with my 8 meltas that I can wreck vehicles with little stress (besides the lameraven)

Where is this tournament? and I think you should go with more vanguard, their really isn't a reason fo the bikes, meltabombs and grenade launchers arent going to do much In my mind.

Its out in Antioch CA GW May 7. I was wanting to try some bikers in the list, but after doing some turnhammer theyre just a free kp. Cant deny the power of 20 additional attacks on a charge, with possible furious charge so 5 more vanguard it is

Haha exactly, the bikes will probably do...nothing. When you say antioch which place are you referring to? the gamers guild over there?

No, there actually is a GW in Antioch, although it is really Brentwood. Its in one of the large shopping centers and a real to find. Its past the Brentwood bypass but the address is still under Antioch. Basically if you too go far to do the left turn do a u-turn and go into the shopping center right before the Stockton CA freeway entrance. I almost crashed the first time I tried to find it, its hidden if you get off the freeway.

Go with scout bikes, they saved my bacon in the ard boys last year.
Scout bikes in a DOA list 101
If you start on the table and the other side goes 1st turbo boost the scout bikes in front of your army but within the priest's 6" FNP bubble. 3++ cover T5 and a 4+ FNP while everybody behind them gets a 4+ cover.
If you go first you can alpha strike turn 1 assault with krak grenades against vehicles that have not moved yet. The best part is if anything counter assaults the bikes on your opponents turn they are within counter assault range of your assault squads because DOA is that fast.
If you deep strike the scout bikes outflank, it's a wonderful synergy between assault marines and scout bikes.
None of those tactics require grenade launchers or a locator beacon which BA don't need thanks to DOA. I prefer a power fist over melta bombs, otherwise my philosophy is to keep them cheap and go with as many bodies as possible. They only cost 4 points more than an assault marine.
Also against AV5 opponents the TL boltguns are relentless and hit 75% of the time.

Chaos isn’t a pit. Chaos is a ladder. Many who try to climb it fail, and never get to try again. The fall breaks them. And some are given a chance to climb, but refuse. They cling to the realm, or love, or the gods…illusions. Only the ladder is real. The climb is all there is, but they’ll never know this. Not until it’s too late.

Definitely another Vanguard unit thanks to the special rules
provided that your army starts off the table.
Otherwise, I see better choices than Scout Bikers.
