What do you think is the Greatest Battle of Warhammer 40,000, this can be from any Black Library novel or Codex. This does include the Hours Heresy and the Great Crusade as they had some of the fiercest battles of the 40K Universes.
Note; Please Explain what these Battle were about and the forces as some are not as well known as other.

I imagine the War in Heaven was a rather titanic campaign: many, many C'tan leading vast legions of Necrons all over the galaxy. A war so powerful it birthed entire species!!!

The first war on Armageddon also sounds pretty good, a primarch actually did something!

I think the Octavian war between the orks and tyranids should be rated up there, to my knowledge that war is still going on.

The Battle of Terra, Battle of Macragge, the Tyranid-Octavian War, 2nd War of Armageddon, Battle of Ilyanden are probably the big ones.

The ongoing Battle of Cadia as well probably, as it was said the 13th Black Crusade saw the largest mobilization of Imperial and Chaos forces since the Horus Heresy.

As far as battles go, I'm going to be pretty generic and say the Siege of Terra. But there's reason for it; it is pretty great.

The super massive galaxy spanning Hive Fleet Ninja that attacked and destroyed the Squat Homeworlds that spanned the Center of the Milky Way Galaxy! It was such an awesome battle that every single Squat in existence was snuffed out with a word from the Hive Mind Jervis, never to show it's face in the 40k universe again.

What made the battle so extremely unusual was that not a single race was harmed except for the Squats. Even the Imperium escaped unscathed!

Then, all of a sudden, the Tyranid Hive Fleet Ninja dissappeared, leaving no trace of it's existence...not even in the Tyranid codex.

Truely, this was the greatest Battle of the Warhammer 40,000 Universe.

"Khorne is a noble warrior who respects strength and bravery, who takes no joy in destroying the weak, and considers the helpless unworthy of his wrath. It is said that fate will spare any brave warrior who calls upon Khorne's name and pledges his soul to the blood god. It is also said that Khorne's daemons will hunt down and destroy any warrior who betrays his honour by killing a helpless innocent or murdering in cold blood..."

I have a soft spot for the Third Armageddon War, to be honest. A proper fight if ever there was one, says I.

Ullanor! The greatest WAAGH! ever was utterly crushed under the might of 100,000 Astartes and 8 million Imperial Army troops! The celebration after was quite epic also. No bigger gathering of military might before or since then. If that force were to ever gather for war, nothing would stand in its way.

Though obviously the Battle for Terra was more epic. The battle for Mars was pretty intense also.

'Fenris. The fortress of the Sixth Legion Astartes, called - forgive me - the Space Wolves. The fortress is known as the Fang. Am I right?'

Are we counting whole wars or just battles? Cuz if it's wars then the Heresy obviously takes the cake, and if it's battles then the Siege of Terra.

The war in heaven is probably the largest one because this war really started to shape the warp into what present 40k is now

Pretty sure the 4th edition codex has a galactic map with a marker that says 'Squad Homeworld (Destroyed)'. I can't remember the planet name given. Obviously they had more than one world, but it has been noted in a codex.

And considering how much GW wanted to forget about the dwarfs in leather chaps riding trikes, are you really that surprised at the little fanfare given to their passing?

There are a lot of great battles in the 40k universe. I believe some of the greater ones would have to be: Battle for Macragge, all of Armageddon's great battles, the battle on Rynn's World was pretty great too. (what do you expect for an ork player )

I'm pretty sure it's Golgotha (The hill where Jesus was crucifid)

I am pretty sure the Squat homeworld wasn't Golgotha.

I belive Golgotha was a world that was retaken is some Crusade. its mentioned in the previous SM codex IIRC. some poem about as UM captain who met his end on Golgotha.

its over in the same galactic arm as Terra IIRC.
