This is a list I'll be refining for the NoVa open...so I can make plenty of changes to it by the time NoVa rolls around. Currently in playtesting, had a game yesterday against a very competitive Tau army/player who was also practicing for NOVA. Despite him getting first turn and taking out the land raider and the vindicator right off the bat, I still managed to win taking both objectives and near tabling him. Have made a few changes since then...but what do you guys think I could do to improve the list?

Logan - 275
10x Wolf Guard:
1 w/ TA and TH/SS - 63
1 w/ TA and HF/CF - 53
4 w/ PW - 112
3 w/ PF - 114
Land Raider Crusader w/ Multi-Melta and EA - 275

5x Wolf Guard w/ 5x Combi-Plasma - 115
Drop Pod - 35

8x Grey Hunters w/ Plasma and Wolf Standard - 140
Drop Pod - 35

5x Grey Hunters w/ Plasma - 85
Razorback w/ TLLC - 75

5x Grey Hunters w/ Plasma
Razorback w/ TLLC - 75

5x Wolf Scouts w/ Meltagun and Meltabombs - 110

Rune Priest w/ Tempest's Wrath and Living Lightning - 100
5x Long Fangs w/ 2x HB and 2x LC - 135

Vindicator - 115

Thoughts? Comments? Criticism?

I think your army list would be much better if....

-you didnt take Logan
-Psychers really arent very good, especially space wolf ones
-get rid of all power weapons/fists
-put heavy flamers on the razorbacks, no lascannons or plasma
-equip all vehicles with dozers and pintle storm bolters
-Never bring Extra Armour
-in fact...dont bother bringing armour at all. Space wolves can run across the board. They're that good.
-Lose anything that can bust armour...noones playing mech anymore
-Long fangs are good enough...they don't need heavy weapons
-Bring three full units though

I'm going to the Nova too BTW...good luck with your army, hope this helps, and see you there!

I was reading through that thinking you were absolutely crazy and readying a very well thought-out reply...then I realized you were joking . I assume you are?

So um...any serious advice?

Honestly.....

Nova is going to be a Hyper-competetive event. I'm sure you know this.

Unless you simply run this list "like a boss" (and even then I'm not sure) there are some pretty glaring things here that make me think you wont make it to Sunday....

Your Crusader is a massive target...pop it and you're making those Guard walk across the board in power armour. That's extremly bad as I'm sure you're aware of.

If I were you, I'd make sure that you learn to protect that crusader like it was money. Give it cover with the Razors and Vindie. Personally, I'd drop it and go a different route.

I'd drop that Vindie too....honestly, you'd prolly be better off going the typical Wolf route....drop the Vindie and Crusader and max out your Long Fang Squads. There's a reason people do that...it works. Heavy Bolters are losers in the game today. Just go Missle launchers...maybe a lascannon or two if you've gotta have one and have the points left over.

Your army is WOEFULLY short on melta. Throw meltaguns on those drop squads and attach a WG with combi melta's to them. They'll be much more effective that way.

Another WG on your Scouts w/ a combi-melta and fist might be nice too.

Right now your army has two "targets", the loaded crusader being the easiest and most damaging to you if it's stopped. The other is the Vindie. Everyone will know this. Now you know that they know. If that's ok with you, then keep going...otherwise, spread those points out a little. Don't be afraid to do what the rest of the internet is doing with their competetive wolf lists. Nova is a competetive event...you gotta have a strong army.

More Melta, less big obvious targets, maybe a little speed mixed in (a couple speeders?), basically, spread them points out. Make each loss you take hurt less.

Your army right now? One Lance/railgun/lascannon shot and you could be behind the 8 ball and fighting an uphill battle for the rest of the game.

Yes, I'm familiar in playing in GTs with sub-optimal armies.

Yes, this happened to me in the game yesterday. Not good

The LC/HB set up actually works rather well I find. The heavy bolters are very useful and cheap for mowing down infantry, and I like the extra strength on the lascannons. I may consider switching to missile launchers though...but then I'd have to spend a ton of money getting 15 MLs I had the vindi and the crusader there for more armor saturation, otherwise I'm worried the RBs will be shot down to quickly...thoughts? I think I will add more long fangs however.

I have an unfortunate lack of melta models however, I may consider it. Also, I do find the plasmas quite handy. However, I think I'll take heed of the WG in the scouts...that sounds useful.

So razorspam? hm...i don't know :\

More bodies. Got it.

Yep, this happened yesterday logan and friends were walking across the board...if I were to keep them, would a drop pod be better?

Here's what I'm thinking for a new list....

Njal w/ Runic Terminator Armor - 270
5x Long Fangs w/ 4x Missile Launchers - 115

Rune Priest w/ Living Lightning and Tempest's Wrath - 100
5x Long Fangs w/ 2x LC and 2x HB - 135

Rune Priest w/ Living Lightning and JotWW - 100
5x Long Fangs w/ 2x LC and 2x HB - 135

5x Grey Hunters w/ Plasma - 85
Razorback w/ LC - 75

5x Grey Hunters w/ Plasma - 85
Razorback w/ LC - 75

5x Grey Hunters w/ Plasma - 85
Razorback w/ AC - 75

8x Grey Hunters w/ Wolf Standard and Melta - 135
Drop Pod w/ Deathwind - 55

8x Grey Hunters w/ Wolf Standard and Plasma - 140
Rhino - 35

6x Wolf Guard w/ 5x Combi-Plasma and 1x Combi-Melta (goes with Grey Hunters) - 138
Drop Pod w/ Deathwind - 35

5x Wolf Scouts w/ Melta and Meltabombs - 110

Total - 2000

Does that look better?

We get it, you want to be different from all the other Space Wolves players, right?
Having Lascannon, Heavy Bolter Long Fangs is, for lack of a better word, stupid.
Why take special weapons with different ranges? Why take heavy bolters at all?
Why so much plasma? If you want plasma, change those Razorbacks to LC/PG Razorbacks.
Give the squads meltaguns.
Don't mix in random drop pods with your other vehicles.
What is the theme of the army? How do you expect it to play? There are just a bunch of different units and models, without a cohesive structure to them. Go back to the drawing board.

Ok, so they're stupid. Would you care to give a reason why instead of making bland statements?

canthatenuff wrote:Why take special weapons with different ranges? Why take heavy bolters at all?

Because they are quite effective for 5 points. Oh, and there's a thing called infantry.

canthatenuff wrote:Why so much plasma? If you want plasma, change those Razorbacks to LC/PG Razorbacks.

Popping light transports, taking out MEqs, and monstrous creatures.

canthatenuff wrote:Give the squads meltaguns.

Fair enough. Why though? How often is a squad sitting back in a razorback going to use a weapon only really effective at 6"?

canthatenuff wrote:Don't mix in random drop pods with your other vehicles.

and your reasoning..? It adds more armor saturation and is essential to get the plasmas/meltas up close.

canthatenuff wrote:What is the theme of the army? How do you expect it to play? There are just a bunch of different units and models, without a cohesive structure to them. Go back to the drawing board.

Razorbacks and long fangs castle up in the back. Rhino stays with them to help babysit and can be a "sweeper" unit. Drop pods: one is a suicide unit, intended to take out one target and to draw fire. Other to drop onto objectives or to pop a vehicle with their meltas then next turn charge into the enemy. I know how it plays, because I actually play with it. Why then should I go back to the drawing board?

Missile Launchers are cheaper and play the duality role better. Furthermore, when you have a squad full of weapons with the same max range you can sit back further. This is really handy!
Once again, why take the risk with Plasma on your models? Use LasPlas Razors, more efficient due to no gets hot!
If a squad is sitting back they aren't making use of plasma guns either, 24" max range isn't all that good.
If they are "sitting back" then use flamers. If its within rapid fire range, I'd still rather have meltas.
Deathwinds are a waste of points.
Those drop pod units would be better served as non-suicide units. Each unit should serve multiple roles and suicide units are terrible for marines.
Njal is expensive, especially when you are running 2 more Rune Priests.
Guess what? no one is scared of your armies CC ability, maybe by cutting Njal and some of the silly drop pod stuff, you could get some TWs or Lone Wolves, etc.

I find Njal to very worth it. His Lord of Tempest is a Game Changer. I usaly put him with my Long Fangs and Let the rising storm do real damage. That and Robin [Night Wing] can realy ruin some ones day. Just dont Focus your Army around him and He will last a couple of Turns.
