Hi, I'm in a middle of a game and someone said Calgar's power fist's don't drop to initiative one like other powerfists. Is this true?

Powerfists, as defined by the 40k rulebook, strike at I 1. I don't have my codex on hand, but unless there is a special rule written in for him, they are I 1, leaving you to wonder why they bothered giving him a high initiative in the first place.

No. Calgar does not have any special rules that allow him to strike at initiative. He is always going at I1.

He has a high initiative for the same reason Ghazgull has one (as an example of another character always armed with a PF). And that reason as I see it is sweeping advances and anything that requires the model to make an initiative test.

There was actually a rumor of this before the codex came out, but nope. He's initiative 1 like any other power fist guy.

I believe that powerfist armed models can *choose* to not use their powerfists, and thus strike at initiative order. You'll notice if you peruse the Space Marine Codex that Mr. Calgar sports a power sword.

You believe incorrectly, at least in a general sense. If you have a special CCW you must use it, no more turning things off if they're inconvenient. But as you point out, Calgar also has a power sword and so can use that to strike at initiative.
