Since rogue trader there have been appearances of wierd aliens in 40k. some have been forgotten (Zoats *cough*) but others are quite new. ive not read any dark heresy material but i reckon they added a few too, so in short: what do we have thats not codex material or has been released as a army addon (like the =I= monkey and the ones in the DE codex).

The Ski'irri'ix... probably have spelled the name wrong. Some rat-faced, twisted little bastards out in the Koronus Expanse that are, basically, GW's version of Jawas. They will buy or sell anything to/from anyone, are obsequious to a fault, and have a trade-based culture.

The Rak'Gol... again, probably spelled it wrong (posting from work, no books on hand)... a highly organized, highly aggressive, warlike insectoid species. Smarter than Tyranid, not as numerous. Also in the Koronus Expanse.

There is another race, can't even begin to think of the name, who appear as a humanoid mass of maggots and slugs. Extremely nasty. Often encountered alone or in small groups. Very, very dangerous.

It is best to be a pessimist. You are usually right and, when you're wrong, you're pleasantly surprised.

The latest rulebook lists new "emerging Alien empires" which are encroaching into Imperial Space, these are likely the strongest alien factions outside of the established factions:

-Ulimeathic League: Took heavy loses fighting Hive Fleet Jormungandr
-Dracolith Church
-Reek Worldweave
-Draxian Hegemony

Other races I've come across from Xenology/WD/Lexicanum:
-Thyrrus: Squid people with plasma guns that view war itself as a performance

-Nekulli: Mercenary race that reminds me a lot of the Kroot

-Simulacra: Shapeshifters who eat the brains of their victims to absorb their personality and memories

-Slaugth: Are made up of millions of worms and can expand/shape their body.

-Umbra: Vicious little balls of black gew that can grow to enormous sizes. There's a pic of Space Marines fighting them somewhere

-Barghesi: a race described as "hyper-violent" which was recently contained to the Grendel Stars by the Iron Lords Astartes Chapter.

-Hrud: Some kind of weird nocturnal race that collects data, seem to be pretty vicious and utilize nano-technology.

-Enoulians: A race whose world was destroyed by the Imperium, and now bare a burning hatred for all things Imperial. They work as mercenaries and make guerrilla raids into Imperial territory from the Halo Stars.

-Loxatl: Lizard people who work as mercenaries.

The Slaugth... or is it Sluagth? I forget... anyway, that was the worm-people I mentioned in my first post.

There's a number of alien races, now extincted, mentioned as having been in the Calixis Sector and the Koronus Expanse which, I think, are vague references to Bioware's Mass Effect series, and possibly some of the xeno races found therein.

It is best to be a pessimist. You are usually right and, when you're wrong, you're pleasantly surprised.

Ones we can safely ignore are the ones that have been wiped out... so "present day" 41st century stuff.
