Am I missing something but why would you ever bother using hammer hand in a GK squad if you can just auto instant death everybody with their nemesis force weapons?

I think you are mistaken on what a force weapon does. After you have hit and wounded a model and it fails its invulnerable save, you take a psychic test. If you pass then the model is instantly killed, losing its remaining wounds. Note that this has no effect on single wound models as they already lost their wound before you use your force weapon's power. Also you can only cast one power each turn, so at best you would only kill one multiwound model each turn.

Hammerhand on the other hand gives your entire unit +1STR, this will make it much easier to wound the opponent, which actually helps against single wound models and helps you to cause more wounds on tougher multi wound models, which may actually help you cause the enemy to lose more wounds than he would against your force weapon.

As above.

Hammerhand lets you wound more easily, which is great when you have an IC (Or Thawn) around to cast it - suddenly you're S5 so hurting marines (who ID is normally irrelevant) on 3s.

Bit of a correction to Tyl's comment. NFW's work differently than regular force weapons: test once, and all unsaved wounds cause instant death.

Anyway, you use hammerhand when fighting anything with only 1 wound (other marines, ork boyz, etc), and your force weapons when fighting units with more than 1 wound (nobz, tyranid warriors, etc).

Because even though a FW can instant-kill (on a successful psychic test), you still have to CAUSE a wound. S4 can only wound so much.
Against single wound models with 4+ toughness, you are better off using the S5 and NFW as power weapon, as killing marines on 3+ beats 4+ hands down.

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
Old enough to know better, young enough to not give a ****.

That is not dead which can eternal lie ...

... and yet, with strange aeons, even death may die.

Ah I see, I never really understood force weapons. Thanks all.
