Hi all, I decided to make a blog to record process of the DE army. I'm a very slow painter so don't expect much in the way of updates but we'll see how this goes.

This is my first blog so if anyone can point out ways to improve it, I'll be grateful.

On with the blog...

Archon Iruerl stepped onto the new planet. Particles of ash floated down in the air. It was the first time he, along with the rest of his Kabal, had stepped foot upon a real planet for countless years. It was a relief to be free, free from the trap that they had fought so hard to escape. He had lost much of his Kabal's fighting strength getting out and by now the original Kabal will either have crumbled or the traitor will have taken control and it would be hostile to their presence.

Iruerl had no idea where they were, but it would do. Something about the cold air, the light grey ash that floated down from the heavens, the nature of this barren, wasteland of a planet made him smile, another first in countless years. "This will do", he thought, "this will do..."

So here's the test model for the Kabal of the Frozen Soul

I think I may have over done it on the matt varnish but it'll do as a test model. On top of this perhaps auto-contrasting a picture then auto-contrasting it again through dakka may have been a bad idea but again, it's all about learning from mistakes (and boy have I already made a few).

Any thoughts on improving the model?

So there the first post, I may not be an amazing painter or expert photographer but this'll be some fun and will hopefully improve both my painting a photography skills.

Next up: the archon himself, if I can just get round to finishing him

I like where the model is heading. But instead of white, wouldn't a bone color be better? Maybe go a bit more into detail, and a little bit more variety? Red works OK, but have you though of contrasting with purple, yellow or even green? might work better than red. but that is just IMHO, it's all up to you in the end.

Yeah, I might try that on a different squad in the future and while I'm at it thicken up the quickshade I'm using (quickshade on an elite army :gasp and shade it a little with bone. On top of that, I should probably tidy up the quickshade with a bit of a finer brush when reflecting on the test model, but hey, that's what a test models for.

Then you might want to wait before starting on the Archon if you're going to experiment some more first.
But what you wrote sounds cool.

While the actual level you've painted this model to is good, I personally don't like the colours. As Scrazz said, reds and purples are good, and just visualizing it now, it looks cool; purple being the predominant colour. You might want to try it out.
