so, looking around i am debating between two things atm for how to deal with gettng some actual meganobs. I've been proxying terminators as they have the TL shootas and power fists already; so its a space marine model but still wysiwyg when it comes to equipment and its basically the same armor so people tend to agree that they a a suitable replacment

now meganobs are rediculously expensive compared to terminators or AoBR warboss's so i decided to convert my own so the question is this

do i just swap heads on the existing terminators to ork heads add spikey bits for cooler shoulder pads and small metal pieces to make them have powerclaws which will probably be easier... or so i take those warboss models, use some plastic card and buld a bit of a machanical body around him

i figure for the fluff the mek and his squad killed some terminators and he salvaged the armor and stuffed smaller orks that fit into them and made it work... or in the warboss model case i can make it a bit more ragged looking, like put a oil drum looking body arouns his mid section and its just the ork thinking he's a meganob because he's wearing a 55 gallon drum

which do you think is cooler? the terminator idea is cheaper and easier i think... but i can see the warboss being more unique so... thoughts?

I have seen Terminators turned into very passable Meganobz! I think it'll work.

I almost never see Meganobz made from Terminators that don't look like total butt. Their proportions are completely different, and 90% of the time it's just Ork heads on Terminator bodies. A far better way is to build up mega armor with plasticard over Black Reach Nob bodies. It can look rough because, well, they're Orks!

That's what I did. I stuck lots of little squarish pieces of plastic on them along with various mechanical looking stuff from my bitz box. No two of them look exactly the same, they are basically walking junk yards.

That actually was easier than I thought!

done by wib.

Obviously, you can't just stick an Ork head on a Terminator and call it good, but you can use that as a base and Orkify it. I stand by my previous comment, and say it CAN happen.

But yes, there are some out there that look like butt!

Well, as aforementioned... the proportions are wrong. It would work if you cut the limbs and the torso up and bulked them out a fair bit. Then just add some ramshackle armour plates, some pistons, some orky what-nots and some iron gobz. The conversion is very possible, but you need to do some thinking before you set about doing it. Hope this helps.

Orks in general are disporpostioned. I like those black meganobz, but they have a 2nd edition feel to them.

(You can see them in detail on my gallery.)

I converted my AOBR terminators to Meganobz a while ago. As with almost everything I paint/make, they're not finished, BUT I thought they came out pretty okay. As far as proportions go, it's mostly a case of cupping or hiding the groin. This will disguise the fact these models have much longer legs than the Orks.

They're a really fun conversion to make, so go for it.

Yeah I gotta make some of these for myself - wib did a tremendous job converting those Nobz - a relatively simple conversion but SUPER effective.

The legs still look a bit thin for my liking but that's easy to fix by bulking out with plasticard. *sigh* another project to add to the workload

I dunno, I kinda like the differing proportions, makes their arms look more muscular:
(This is just a nob, not a meganob)

(Will add painted photo when finished)

Google is failing me, but back in the day Orks had no problems stealing and using terminator armour. I'll have to scan a picture in from one of my old White Dwarfs.

Many bits services offer alternate heads... eg. Pirate orks... a few head swaps might do wonders.

Basically rsjake nailed what i was looking at doing. If I went with terminators I was going to add bits to the shoulders for the ork spikey look. Then add some more plasticard in the front for the mechanical jaw look of meganobs. my idea for the power claws is to use the existing power fist look on them and add in some small metal shard jutting out to form the claw, and finish it off with spikes on the legs; I don’t' mind them having thin little legs, if i find it un proportional I'll just use some mod-podge to build them out some and then reapply the spikes.

I’m glad to see its been done and looked good, makes me much more confident in doing it myself knowing it can look good, thanks

If the legs still look a bit long, you could just cut 1 or 2 mm out of the top part of the legs and glue them back together, that should shorten them up just right. (I think I typed this already, but I must not have hit submit yesterday).

I like the way they look overall and I'd much rather play with something like that than pay 20$ each for meganobz from GW and they give them a customer feel. I'm for going through with this conversion.

Get some red blok kollossus (or something), they make good meganobz with some conversion work.
