I'm honestly pretty intrigued by meganobs. At first glance, they look pretty darn cool, they're an ork with a good armor save (yay!), they can be taken as troops if you take a warboss with em, which might be good for holding objectives, and a wagon full of them could chew through marines easily.

However, they're pretty darn expensive and the notable lack of any kind of invuln makes me really wary.

Is it ever a better idea to take meganobs than a vanilla nob unit with a painboy and cybork? A cybork nob with a power claw is more expensive, but the beauty of that is you can mix them in with the rest of the unit, so you can hit a little faster with some of the nobs, then throw in some extra instant death kills after your opponent strikes with the claws.

What do you think, folks? Yes or no to meganobs?

"Got you, Yugi! Your Rubric Marines can't fall back because I have declared the tertiary kaptaris ka'tah stance two, after the secondary dacatarai ka'tah last turn!"

"So you think, Kaiba! I declared my Thousand Sons the cult of Duplicity, which means all my psykers have access to the Sorcerous Facade power! Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"

"you think it is you who has gotten me, yugi, but it is I who have gotten you! I declare the ever-vigilant stratagem to attack your rubrics with my custodes' ranged weapons, which with the new codex are now DAMAGE 2!!"

"...which leads you straight into my trap, Kaiba, you see I now declare the stratagem Implacable Automata, reducing all damage from your attacks by 1 and triggering my All is Dust special rule!"

Between Alpha and Omega, and a little to the left

Meganobz are good for their points. +2 save combined with 2 wounds make them impervious to small arms fire, and they can be used to great use in a trukk (MANZ missiles). But with the sickening demand in melta and when compared to TH/SS Temerinators, they got shuffled a poor hand.

Actually, you can't mix Meganobs with regular nobs. And you probably won't make that invulnerable save often enough to justify the points. I take small units of them in a trukk and just accept that they are going to do some serious damage, then get killed. However, that being said it's also a good idea to take a mega-armored warboss with an attack squig, to get as many attacks as possible when you do attack. The best targets for them are terminators with powerfists, because you attack at the same time and so you don't lose anyone before it's your turn, and units that have no power weapons/fists. Of course, I have had the best luck with my Meganobs against Trygons, Mawlocks and recently a Dreadknight, single targets that you can surround and demolish easily. They even killed Marneus Calgar once, but mostly because he didn't have a unit around him. They are cheaper than ordinary nobs for what they get, but they also don't have FNP, which regular nobs do. I usually take a unit of each and keep them close so they can support each other.

They're not horrible, but regular nobz are better.

If I take them I take a suicide unit of 3 in a Trukk, 1 TL shoota 2 diff Kombis for wound allocation.

Pick a target that they can really bully up on eg vehicles and units without power fists. Then they shine and are a real PITA to boot!

In a list with lots of Trukk Mobz they're a great support unit as well.

I meant the ability to mix in a nob with a power claw with the rest of the nob unit, rather than the meganobs all having power claws.

And I generally take the invuln save, and coupled with the 2 wounds and fnp, I find it makes nobs incredibly tough to kill, maybe not as tough as meganobs, but still nasty. It's a lifesaver against instant death, pays for itself right there by saving you 1/3 of the time.

Normal Nobz with Cybork and FNP are brutally hard to kill.

This past Sat my 6 Nobz squad with Big Mek and Warboss were locked in combat with a unit of Berzerkers and a Chaos Lord with MoK and a PF. They got charged by another 10 Berzkerkers and a unit of normal CSMs with a PF.

Ended up surviving 3 full game turns of combat only losing 3 of the Nobz in total. They managed to hold out until a Killa Kan and a unit of 30 Boyz came in to finish off the remains.

I mitigated 18 wounds in one early round of combat and only lost 1 nob.

I would agree that regular nobs are better, but honestly I have not met an opponent who did not make them the primary target.

Perhaps the idea of orks in terminator armor scares people.

Never ever field them without a trukk. Slow and purposeful is horrendous.

I love Meganobz. Just sit them on an objective and see if anyone has the balls to try and challenge them for it.

I love meganobz.

I designed an army I am slowly building with 18 of them.

They are a great scare factor unit against some people / armies.
