So, I need some R&R from work after a very busy year before we enter and even busier period.

So I take a week off work to chillax and have been looking forward for a month to kicking back and painting the vast quantities of assembled terrain this week. Big project. Only terrain I've ever painted so far is the Space Marine statue.

So...(lots of "so"s in this post) Wednesday last week I start coughing. Friday my workmates spend their time in sympathy or paying me out cos last time I had leave last year I went to a live roleplaying Con in QLD, barely dragged my way to a few of the games and essentially paid lots of money to fly across the country and sit in my hotel room with a severe lung infection.

So what happens this time? I get bronchitis. How is this fair?! (At least I haven't spent a small fortune to go away this time). I can hold a brush now but it's pretty shakey but I am determined to keep painting! ...results however are not guaranteed....

Sigh. I might be lucky to get one building done instead of the four or five I'd hoped to do.

Cursed! Cursed I tell you!

Oh, and it didn't help that Saturday I went to undercoat everything and ran out of undercoat. Four cans of black. All empty :S

Not much hope of that. Next holiday is a couple days down south for a medieval fair, then a live roleplaying con (thankfully local this time) then a week for martial arts seminars and championships. Not that that's a holiday but hey, I'm not at work >.<

Oh, my poor buildings. When will you ever get painted?!

Though I'm beginning to question the wisdom of deciding to paint wallpaper inside one of them....

You could always conscript tiny people to help paint the basic bits...

I'm not a very good painter but get one helluva sense of satisfaction when it's done so very loathe to let other people do bits for me. I'm always having to fend off my b/f's little sister from painting my guys. Though she did a pretty good job on his commissars!

Heh, thanks guys. Seriously though, the statue was a fluke from keeping my hands busy during a Death Watch game one Sunday afternoon. My stuff isn't that great, which is partly why my army's a down and in the thick of it urban street fighting specialist company. Hides my mistakes more cos they don't have to be perfect but gritty! :p

But I seem to paint best when I'm distracted, which is why we have 40k painting days. My b/f does a bbq, people come round and we all shoot the breeze whilst painting and assembling. It's easier painting dude after dude after dude of grey on grey when there's a dozen people to chat to whilst you're doing it. The longest one of these has gone for is fourteen hours.

I am however convinced that GW hate Cadian players cos the reticulated banners are a beeyatch to paint.

One of my friends consistently jokes that my guys are unpainted and asks when I'll paint them. Cos they were grey before...and grey after.

It was fun doing my Death Watch Blood Claw. Ironic. He's Death Watch, so black but still has more colour on him than my army!

I felt okay yesterday afternoon so made real progress on my Governor's Palace but a long way to go yet. So annoyed I'm a good solid two days behind on painting it. Before I can ever consider it complete, I'll need to get something I can use as carpet >.<

I'm glad I could help ^^. I really like the use of grey on them. Looks really good. I use the more traditional Cadian colors personally, but its so booooring. And those banners sucks big time >.<. You should post more when you can! Especially your Blood Claw and Palace. Cant wait to see the Palace ^^.

The grey on grey was better before they lightened up Codex grey to make it only one or two shades darker than Fortress grey. I almost cried when they did that. I turned to the GW staffer who'd come over and cried "Why?! Why have they done this to me?!"

...maybe that's overdramatising the situation just a tad....

Traditional Cadian colours are to match the Cadian terrain (I find it cute that they still have an 'outdoors' on Cadia) but off planet, they wear that stuff as official uniform and change their colours to fit the terrain of the world they're fighting on. My boys being urban specialists are mostly going to need to blend with urban rubble and ferrocrete.

That and I'm the one who usually gets to set up the game board

<sigh> I just wish they'd bring out female heads. That's all they need to mix it up in the IG. They don't need skinny waists (cos you can't tell under lotsa armour anyway), they don't need STUPID corsets (like my female Commissar model has - seriously. A commissar in a corset), just female looking faces, and my army could be nicely mixed up. <double sigh>

Oh, do you like to use a lot of terrain? Personally, Id like to use more "buildings" but we seem to stick with a bunch of ruins.

I totally agree about the females. I wanted one Veteran Female Squad. There are a few places to get some female parts, I have some links if you're interested. Guard totally needs more females! I've been fighting over that fact on dakka for a while now, haha.

I know that if I darken it up, I'll come up with a different shade each time. :S I'm a bit of a paint fail at times.

But yeah, we use heaps of terrain. We've got a few projects in the works. First is the bombed out Imperial City. We've got two of the Imperial Sector box sets which we've assembled one and a half off, plus some of the barricades and so forth. Once the buildings are painted, we'll base them so we can do cool ground and paint up the rubble to match.

Next project, cos my b/f's a Necron player will probably be the Necron tomb world. Then prolly the mountain fortress using the landing pad, fortress of redemption and bastion.

At the moment we just dump unpainted buildings, or craters or trees and tank traps, ruins, the usual on the table.

Oh, and yes please to links to female heads I've had friends in the past send me links but they've always looked like gangers with stupid amounts of hair that any serious army personnel would laugh at.

What I'm also after is juvenile models or teenage looking models or even heads for my white stripes. I don't really want to paint a white stripe on the helmet of a thirty/forty year old looking guy. I asked this in another thread but only response I got was to get juves, file off the clothing and greenstuff armour on. Which made me wanna cry :p

Oh, and uploaded more pics of my army into my gallery but don't have more pics of my deathwatch space wolf yet.

I keep typing because the infamous Space Cat is sitting on my mouse.....(she always insist on being involved in 40k and many times has almost become terrain or had her tail painted).

I really like the idea of making terrain, but I havn't done a lot yet. I've made a little buner, but thats about it. I hope to try a little more. Again, you should post some pics of your terrain XP. But totally loved the pics you have posted, especially the one of the cat. Looks just like my Mau. Seems to act like my Mau too, haha. She always likes to lay in the middle of everything. Damn cat, haha.

We just buy Citadel terrain and assemble it. Other than the statue and now half painted palace, nothing's painted up yet or mounted on boards or anything. It's the beginning of the project.

Yeah...Space Cat loves to get involved. She likes RPGs especially cos there's no terrain or computers on the table so she can just sit on people's character sheets and demand pats for her troubles.

She got the name Space Cat when she was injured and had a cone around her head. So she sat in the middle of the battle map whilst we were playing Rogue Trader and took it in turns to glare at everyone demanding sympathy and pats from each person. But then she nearly disrupted a space battle and we had to move her. She was not impressed.

She is also known as the personification of Khorne for the grumpy "I will eat you all" look she permanently has on her face (except for me). My partner's cat is the personification of Tzeentch. He's smart, but a doofus so constantly outwitting himself.

Haha, very nice. The Mau would wait until you were several turns into a Magic the Gathering game before laying in the middle of the battlefield. She was the Uber-Planeswalker. She also didnt appreciate board games or typing on the computer. Pretty much anything that took attention away from was was disallowed. Damn, evil Khandarian Demon. Vindictive too!

EEEEEWWWWWW When you're painting and have bronchitis and are all phlemgy, do not suck on your brush. Gross. Totally gross.

Yeah, if I'm playing computer games or doing whatever at the computer, she just comes along and sits on it. Cos my lappy goes on the floor when we're gaming, both Khornite Cat and Tzeentch cat will sit on the keyboard. Both have managed to log it off, log it back on as a different user, and disable my wireless.

There was another site i used to have for female head...but i didnt like it. They were very ugly. Ill look for em just in case.

There was also another guy who did remale cadians once. But it's very hard to get any more. Ill try looking for those again too...theyre MUCH more promising.

Holiday is marginally looking up. Have finished the interior ground floor of the palace so just upper floor and the broken edges to go now. Friends coming around to play 40k tonight (and breaking in a new player for her first game), Twilight Imperium (a fantasy flight 40k-ish empire building board game) tomorrow and Tuesday we have Rogue Trader. Then <sigh> back to work Wednesday. Hopefully I'll have stopped sneezing and coughing by then!

Last night I went to the FLGS and grabbed a Dark Elves codex >.> Do you play Fantasy at all?

Nup. Fantasy never really caught me at all. Forced a draw tonight against the SW, my boys fought stoically led by their Lady Commissar (rare games day release '96) and that was followed by some decent stargazing - before clouds and lightening ruined the fun but got Saturn in all his glory along with Titan but we can never see any Grey Knights there... found a nebula and a few clusters. Went to FLGS where my partner and our friend spent a buttload of $$ and I simply picked up Fulgrim for when I finish Flight of the Eisenstein.

Good day, but very tired and worn out. Stupid bronchitis.
