I have been looking for a good rule set for 1:72 World War 2 wargaming. I have had several people suggest just using 15mm rules, but I would rather use a set that is actually designed for this scale. Ideally, I would like to find a ruleset that is fairly common, so that I can actually find other players. Is this too tall of an order? I though about going with 15mm, but the 1:72 range is awesome, and scary cheap by comparison. I know that one other concern is the size of the gaming table needed, but I have two FLGS' with awesome tables, so no worries there.

You know, you could just take the next step and head on down to 6 mm WWII, using the FoW system. It works very well!

I am into the notion, and it would make a home board pretty easy, but I am partially into this for the modeling and painting aspect, and I don't really see that being a big player at 6mm. 6mm also does not seen conducive to playing with infantry based forces. Fielding tank companies is interesting, but I want to have some variety.

Cool forum! Looks like there will be a lot of modeling inspiration there. So, as a mod there, what would you say is the best rule set for this scale?

What size forces do you want to do?
Platoon, company, battalion level engagements?
Rapid Fire is a pretty good place to start, aimed at 20mm gamers and easy to learn.

I second Big P's call, Rapid Fire is by far my favourite WW2 rule set; I'd definitely go with that.

3rd that, played Rapid Fire for many years, before the club switch to Take Cover but was too slow running and it kinda killed the mood for WW2 wargaming until F.O.W came out, trouble is i now have a whole 20mm British army taking up space in the spare room!!
