This is my first and I have found some info regarding testors. I paid $10 for the Model Aircraft and Military Vehicle set. It came with two types of glue, sandpapers, craptastic brushes & knife. Now for the paints. I know these are enamels and require thinner for proper clean up. But how do they look on 40k models. Most of the paints are matte colors.
Flat Black
Flat Red
Flat Green
Flat Army Olive
Flat Military Brown
Flat White
Flat Yellow
Flat Light Tan
Flat Beret Green
Flat Sea Blue
Metallic Silver.
I know that most testors paints are used for high gloss model cars and so on but these are flat/matte paints so how to do think they would come out on 40k miniatures? I have not painted miniatures but have used some GW paints before and found them to be quite expensive.
Also are there any good alternatives to GW paints.
Thanks
Igor

Enamels are no good for 40k models. You can't paint over them because paint will just slip off. There's no tooth for it to grab.

I'm not sure I'd use them for terrain either; you're going to want to highlight/shade/drybrush terrain too, so I don't have any clue what you'd actually use them on.

When I was a kid I painted all sorts of models with Testors enamel. It will stick to polystyrene no problem, it's just difficult to work with. It is very easy to put too much on or have a mess to clean up.
Metal models still need to be primed with a primer or else the paint will rub off.

Well, they would make some pretty nifty vehicle paints.
One tecnique I know would work wonders with enamle paints is using them for battle damage. In short, paint the model in a color (silver and brown come to mind). Then, paint the main color of the model. THis should be done with some sort of spay, beit a can of spraypaint or an airbrush. Finally, take steel wool to the edges of the model to rub off paint. then seal the model to stop the process.

True to some extent if it is gloss enamel, but even then acrylic will go over it, just don't thin it as much. If they are flat finish paints there should be even less issue if he were to use the enamel as an undercoat. Most spray paints are of an oil/enamel nature, the same ones you use to prime/undercoat with.

You can drybrush them just fine, they are scale model paints, and drybrushing is used quite often in scale modeling...ive been doing it for 20 years. When I started gaming, and for many, many years, I used testors flat military paints. I only switched to GW paints when I got away from scale modeling and focused on gaming miniatures. I still have and use a few model paints, and honestly as my GW paints run out Im slowly switching back to testors model paints. The newer ones are water based, so no thinner needed.
As xraytango pointed out gloss paints arent good for minis at all, but OP has a set of military flats.
If youve had problems with them either the paints were bad or you were doing something wrong, though I cant imagine what, I never needed any special techniques.
