I played [oomiestompa] at Black Sun Games.

(Link through to see pics!)

Our two lists were as follows:

Butcher (Phil)
The Butcher of Khardov (*6pts) * Beast-09 (11pts) * Torch (10pts) Greylord Ternion (Leader and 2 Grunts) (4pts) Man-o-war Demolition Corps (Leader and 4 Grunts) (9pts) Fenris (5pts) Manhunter (2pts)
High Allegiant (Felix)
High Allegiant Amon Ad-Raza (*6pts)
* 2x Vigilant (8pts)
2xIdrian Skirmishers (Leader and 9 Grunts) (20pts)
*2xIdrian Skirmishers Chieftain & Guide (3pts)
4x Allegiant of the Order of the Fist (8pts)
2x Vassal Mechanik (2pts)
Yeah, that's the Butcher vs. the Wanderers of the Faith Theme Force. Brute force vs.... I don't know what to call the Amon Theme Force. I love it! But man, was this tough.

DSC01949
Deployment from left to right: Fenris, Beast-09, MOW Demo Corps, Butcher and Greylords, Manhunter, Torch
Because I had two Idrian Unit Attachments for the theme force, I had to declare two Prey Targets. There are a couple ways to approach choosing Prey.

Pick something big, slow, so you'll always be able to catch it.

Pick the warcaster. You absolutely need him or her dead.

Pick something easy to kill so you can make it even easier to kill.

In this case, you can see the markers with orange. MOW Demo Corps and Torch.

DSC01950
The Wanderers of the Faith from left to right: Idrians, four allegiants and more idrians, then Mechanik, Vigilant, Amon, Vigilant, Mechanik
My regular deployment is pretty hilarious. Amon, two Vigilants, and two mechaniks. Everything else Advance Deploys.

DSC01951
The Butcher Moves

Phil has two thoughts about Fenris. One thought was to run him wide of the forest to give him a charge lane and LOS to the Idrians. The other is to hide Fenris behind the forest template to protect him from attacks.

He also mishandles his Demo Corps and Greylords and advances the Demo Corps beyond where the Greylords can Blizzard them.

DSC01952
Wanderers, attack! Or stand still, either way.

The four Allegiants advance and enter the Shifting Sands stance. They gain DEF +2 and when an attack misses them, they can move (expiring Shifting Sands). The left flank Idrians, with no Fenris to attack, start to head toward the center and their primary targets, the MOW Demo Corps. On the right, the other Skirmisher unit heads into cover and tries to make it difficult to give the Manhunter more than one target.

Amon casts Synergy and Mobility and he and his 'jacks head toward the forest at SPD 7.

DSC01953
Talk about Overkill

Torch tries to clear some Idrians with his spray, but rolls miserably.

DSC01954
Hunting Mans

So the Manhunter comes in all by himself to do what the 'jack couldn't accomplish.

DSC01956
PH34R ME

Fenris runs through the forest, forcing Abomination checks on two Allegiants. Can you guess which one failed his command check?

DSC01957
Shifting, Like Sand

The MOW Demo Corps charge with their Backswings. They miss the scared Allegiant, who can only move away with his Shifting Sands movement. Another Allegiant shifts away and engages a MOW Demo Corps who ran instead of charged.

DSC01958
Prey for the Creator

Assault and Battery and two Combined Melee charges with Prey first clears out the Manhunter in the way (the Idrians are close enough to ignore Stealth) and then puts a little bit of hurt on the Khadoran heavy warjack. Perhaps the better plan might have been to run the Manhunter in rather than free up charge and Combined Ranged attack options.

DSC01959
Everybody was Combined Arms Fighting

The second unit of Idrians Assault and Battery , triggering bonuses from Prey and getting some help from Allegiants. They knock out some damage and eliminate some MOW.

DSC01960
Take Him Down!

The unit also tries to do enough damage (barely passing their Abomination command roll with a 9) to unhorse and kill Fenris, but the maniac is Tough, and at the end of the turn he's simply knocked down instead of dead.

DSC01961
Berserk!

All those guys in the previous picture? They're gone now. Fenris simply stood up and triggered multiple attacks against the unit.

DSC01962
Torching the Faithful

I suppose there's something fitting about Torch spraying Idrians and killing them dead.

DSC01963
Sprays

Greylord spray the area with cold magic, thinning the numbers of lightly armored Skirmishers.

DSC01964
Tough!

Backswings from the Demo Corps knock an Allegiant down, and knock him down again, but they're not enough to take him out for the count.

DSC01965
Retaliate

The Allegiants and the Idrians finish off the MOW Demo Corps, freeing the Idrians up to Prey on the Butcher. For some reason, he's decided to draw out Amon. This is now or never. The Idrians combine some fire at the ARM 22 Butcher.

DSC01966
A Blurry Shot. Amon moves that fast!
So this is it. Amon drops Synergy and allocates no focus. He then pops his feat Union to generate focus for his warjacks. He casts Mobility to give him 8" of movement to position himself just right, and then Smites the Butcher with a boosted attack roll.

He connects, slams the Butcher into Beast-09, and boosts the damage roll. The Butcher gets some hurt (not nearly enough). Amon buys more attacks, boosting damage. The Butcher remains bloody, but not beaten.

An Allegiant lends a friendly Weapon Master punching fist...at P+S 9, nothing really happens.

Finally one Vigilant has room to come in punching the Butcher and boosting damage as well.

When the attack run fails, we call the game. There's just nothing left for this paper army when Amon's standing right next to a guy called "The Butcher".

Conclusions

The two Vigilants in the list might be a mistake. They're tough and all, but even if Synergy is up, they're not going to do much offensively. The Idrians and Allegiants are my main attack wave, but I think the main thrust of this force has to be two Dervishes. At least if I need them to, I can upkeep Synergy and Combo Strike for a P+S 18 for one and P+S 19 for the other. If I need to, they can make the most out of Side Step and make multiple attacks at P+S 14 and P+S 15.

Of course, then the army will totally be made of paper, but since it's already mostly there...
