Firing my Hellgun into a Fire Warrior's head....

I was reading through Helsreach yesterday and noticed something;

Spoiler:
When Grimaldus is talking to "StormHerald's" Princeps, she is quite obvious in displaying her disloyalty to the Emperor, saying "I see you do not show your face this time, knight. You see me revealed, yet you hide behind the death mask of your Emperor.". YOUR Emperor, not OUR Empeor. This pisses Grimaldus off enough and got me to thinking.....

Obviously being the princeps of a Imperator Titan means you are important to the Mechanicus, and rank rather highly. So if she thinks in this heretical way I would think many others in the order of the Mechanicus do as well.

My question is; would mars still be with the Imperium if the Void Dragon rises? Think about it, the Mechanicus is CRAZY about technology and worships it in place of the Emperor even. The void Dragon rising would take all of their future tech advancements away and leave them with the Imperium who exclusively rely on the mechanicus for new breakthroughs who in turn rely on the void dragon....

I do not believe the Mechanicus could bare to be torn away from this part of their life because it IS their life. Becoming necrons or serving them in atleast some way would not surprise me in the slightest, when their loyalty to the Emperor is already in question by many.

Thoughts?

I think that is the whole point really. There are various Cataclysmic end-game scenarios set up for the Galaxy. Who knows how it will all end?

It would probably result in some kind of Mechanicum civil war.

I think you answered your own question.
The mechanicum worship technology first and formost and the Emperor second.
Using the word "your" dosent imply any heresy at all imo, she is merely highlighting the differences between the two factions beliefs.
Its a truely huge leap to say the Mechanicum are going to join the Void Dragon if and when he wakes up (I personally am still unconvinced its even him on Mars).

I don't see how you are unconvinced. Read Mechanicum. There is also of course the Necrons entering the Sol System and crash landing on Mars. And of course:

Spoiler:
The Emperor fabricating his own divinity to the Mechanicum, creating his own prophecy and fulfilling it. How? Because he imprisoned the Void Dragon himself, thereby controlling the rise of the Mechanicus and eventual treaty with them.

It doesn't necessarily have anything to do with the Dragon Cult. There are those on Mars who do not believe that the Emperor is not the Omnissiah pure and simple, Kelbor Hal was one of these and was one of the reason why he sided with Horus.

He pretty much forced the Mechanicum into fealty, it was a case of, you bow to me or I release the Space Marines on you. this um .. upset .. a few members of the Mechanicus.

So you have the happy bunch that worship the Emperor as the Omnissiah, the not so happy lot who believe in the Void Dragon and the really peaved lot who don't like the Emperor as the Omnissiah nor do they worship the Dragon.

@ Cajun, I just think the fluff surrounding the Dragon on Mars is speculation still, albeit some of it strong.
Hints are given but nothing is confirmed.

The fact that I think its a woeful piece of fluff, I admit has coloured my view.

I also recall from another thread that the Ctan may be written out of the next Cron codex and moved to an Apocalypse only ruleset so their fluff might be in for a redoing too i.e. dismissing the Dragon-Mars links.

Really .. one of the of the biggest and intriguing revelations?

How the hell are they going to back peddle on that one?

Moving the C'tan to apoc only units won't really require any fluff to be rewritten. They have always been far to powerful to have in 40k games, they will just be bringing their stats closer to their background.

I sure hope not

But yeah - having Gods on in regular 40k is a bit OP i guess

Maybe, but I just wanted to see what people on this site thought.

Read the Necron codex, just front to back, and if you are still unconvinced then there can be no convincing of you. It flat out states:
Spoiler:
Pg. 4 Necron codex, "the most ancient and zealously guarded records of their Order tell of a time before the coming of the Emperor when a far older power was paid homage to on Mars." Coupled with all the other Mechanicus mentions throughout the book it is going to take one hell of a retcon to take the Void Dragon off of mars.

They are already half machines as it is .

100% of Space Marines would probably love to waltz through Mars killing everything that moved for their heretical ways. The only thing stopping them is the fact that the Imperium would go even farther back technologically if they did this.

The schism within the Ad Mech is pretty well covered in 'Titanicus' too - where news that the Emp may not be the Omnissiah is enough to almost start a civil war - while there's already a war vs chaos going on! These Ad Mech dudes take their messiah pretty darn seriously, and there are just so many little hints that it is indeed the Void Dragon...

100% is a little over the top - think Iron Hands, couple of the other more AdMech oriented chapters.

Agreed. I think several SM would actually join the mechanicums side. If the void dragon awakens it will be a civil war between those who worship the emperor as the omessia, or the void dragon who put all the ideas of the technology they worship in there heads in the first place.
