It's basically my usual 1500 point list with added stabbiness. I'm thinking of taking it to a tourney, bu as far as I know, it's not exactly the 'ard boyz' level of tournamentness.

I don't know what restrictions will be on it yet, so nothing will be set in stone.

I love the concept of the Deathstrike but, to be honest, it's only done not terribly in exactly one game in my 1500 pt lists. I could probably re-jig points to have a Leman Russ with battlecannon, heavy bolters and lascannon instead. Alternatively, a basilisk.

Any thoughts, folks?

Can't tell. Have both vet teams got chimeras. If not, they should have.

Deathstrike is fun. Opponent has to try and kill it. Manticore will often the attract less attention of the two. Park an empty chimera in front of the deathstrike to ensure it gets a cover save if there's no cover available. Maybe the one from the PCS?

The Platoons all aren't too bad, just consider mostly in each list you have three Chimeras which isn't a huge amount.

Also some of the wargear combos are wrong like heavy bolters on Vendetta. Lascannons blow up tanks heavy bolters kill infantry, they do not mix. You also don't need lascannon on the Leman Russ either, it's not worth the points.

I'd say list 2 is the better of the two minus a few things.

don't like the deathstrike or the manticore because they can only fire if the enemy is so far away and so don't normally target the unit you want if ur setting up 24" away, so i would swap for another Standard Leman Russ.

Serving with the 197th

Maybe a bit of a nikpit but commissars can't have M.bombs.

Also, I would swap the GL for melta's. GL look quite nice, but they often fail to do much...

D'oh, that must have been a copy/paste mix up from one of the sergeants!

It's true that the vendetta mix does seem a bit weird at first glance, however, you're paying 5 points per heavy bolter, which is an amazing deal and, hey often add enough weight of fire to help take the last wound off of a demon prince or other monstrous creature.

One vet team is in a chimera, the second vet squad (with melta guns) is in the Valkyrie.

The lascannons on the russes are a waste of points, but considering I built them 10 years ago, they've going to be sticking with them :(

You need to forget about it being a good deal as you don't need to have it just for the sake of having it. Vendettas should be going for monstrous creatures or armour, the heavy bolters may take a wound off the big guys as you said but won't do hardly anything to vehicles.

Got a stanley knife? lol. Heavy flamers always for tanks

It's been a couple of weeks, but I've been on holiday, so

I've done a little tweak by dropping the bolter sponsons and the fleet officer and just gone for a 5th Ogryn. - A better move?

Traditionally, the way my 1500 point list (no Lord Commissar and Ogryns) tends to work is:

The Valkyrie carries veterans with Melta guns, which, if I have the initiative, scout move with the goal to kill the biggest thing on the battlefield, if I'm going second, I usually panic a little, then try hiding it, or outflanking to take points etc.

The flamer chimera squad, and banewolf go on either 'flank' of my army, as flank guards, going forward if there's something suitable to set on fire.

Meanwhile, the HQ and my Plasma vet chimera form the main portion of the middle of my line, with the guardsmen grabbing what cover they can. Generally speaking, I plan on adding the CommissarLord/ogryn's chimera around here, so I can leadership bubble the squads before driving forward to hit stuff.

Marbo usually either goes to camp a rhino that I plan on blowing up, or tries to take out things that I have trouble killing - marines behind a barricade for example.

I am a Ogryn man myself, so I prefer the 2nd list. I would also strongly suggest Yarrick over a Lord Commissar as Yarrick doesn't have the Summary Execution. He has the same Aura of Discipline and has Inspirational Hero (12" Stubborn bubble +) to boot. Well worth the extra points if you can squeeze it in if your looking for something like that.

You /could/ put a extra unit in the Vendetta for turn 5 objective grabbing, even a 50pt Platoon Infantry Squad. It is a kill point though if you lose the ship... pros and cons. I just hate seeing an empty transport.

Good luck!

I tend to use my vendetta as a home for the lonely and dispossessed at the end of the game - as in, a squad that's been heavily mauled with their transport destroyed. THis is, of course, assuming that the Vendetta survives. People tend to want to kill it for some reason.

I think I would probably go for Yarrick in a 2k list, but a tourney rule that I sometime see is 'if you have a special character HQ, you're not allowed another HQ slot.'
