As the title suggests I dont want Duke Sliscus to ride with the Trueborn. So tactically how do I deploy so that the trueborn get the bonus to their ranged weapons, and break-off Slicus to join another group. (lets say a group of wyches)

1.) Start the game with Slicus and his trueborn sitting within two inches of their empty raider. While Slicus is within two inches of the raider he wants to embark on. But you would not be able to assault that same turn with Sliscus because you cannot embark and disembark on the same turn. However in this way you could get 10 trueborn to go into the raider, meaning one more bonus poison weapon. But also if you dont get the first turn, you are vulnerable to enemy fire.

2.)Another way would require you to move your trueborn raider, and the wych raider side by side, so that when you disembark the wyches, the Duke could disembark and move to be in cohesion with them. But intended targets and terrain do not always allow.

Am I missing something obvious here? How else could I go about this? What is the best way to do it.

If the raider is already occupied by a unit, it is *arguable* that the Duke may not mount the raider with the wyches as the timing of "when he joins the unit" is vague enough. Personally, I wouldn't care if we were playing, but it is open to discussion. To save the hairsplitting, simply deploy the duke and trueborn combined unit next to the wyches, with both units out of but in proximity to their transports. On your movement phase, have the duke leave the TB squad, join the wych and mount the wych raider with the wych unit he is now a part of. The trueborns then move however you wish.

If its the trueborns Raider, then they can all start in the Raider.

Then that defeats the purpose of "I dont want Sliscus to ride with the trueborn" He cannot disembark from the raider, join a group of witches. embark on their raider on the next turn as its a huuge waste of a turn. Or maybe your incredibly short response, meant something more profound and I just didn't get it.

No debate on this, the IC and or unit can embark anytime if the other is on the transport. Bottom left of pg 67, Independent characters embarking and disembarking.

And on a totally different topic:

So there is nothing wrong with either of the two ways I stated? And there is nothing safer? Any suggestions as to how to avoid loosing trueborn to early shooting. I guess I wouldnt have to worry about it if im going first.

Nothing wrong with what you stated, and as per the Duke's rules, he has to start with warriors or trueborn, so whatever wych unit you want to put him with is not going to get to assault with him that turn. However, if you start the duke and trueborn out of the transport, then first turn load up the trueborn in one, and the duke into the wyches, the wych raider can still go 12" and the wyches can disembark, fleet, and assault, and then just the duke wont get the first turn assault, but can chill in the Raider until next turn, and then join the wyches if need be.

To prevent the loss of anyone from the units when your doing this, try to use terrain to block LOS as much as possible so that its harder for the enemy to shoot at you while you load up.
