Subject: Ideas for swamp/jungle board?

ATM I've got a RoB battle which is basically painted brown with some flock on the hills, lava between the skull pits and the rocks dry brushed. I've been thinking about making it more interesting and perhaps doing a swamp/jungle style board. Maybe do the skull pits with some murky green brown paint and then fill with water affects, maybe add some flocking around the edges of the pool too.
I've also got plenty of CoD buildings too. I was thinking of getting some of those modular movement trays cutting them up and using them for the building bases and adding flock onto them etc. I was thinking of adding vines onto the buildings and some kind of dry brushing green etc for foliage stains etc.
Any other ideas and anyone got any pictures of previous done boards?
Thanks.

I was going to suggest vines but you have already got that.
If you made some tropical looking trees and maybe had them inside the buildings and growing out of the windows etc it might look pretty cool, would be pretty easy to do using pipe cleaners for the branches.
Crushed chillis or mixed herbs as leaf litter could work?
Maybe have some indiana jones style skeleton nailed to trees, a small detail but would look really good.
Do you have the GW terrain book? There is a pretty good way to make a swamp in it, remind me tomorrow and I'll dig the book out.

I'd actually look at getting some fake Bonsai trees, especially those with the 'flatter' look to them. It'll be absolutely enormous, but then, if you're in a jungle, there'll be huge trees. Maybe even take some actual small buildings, and use GS and air-dry clay to 'strangler fig' them, big roots growing all over the surface, almost blocking doors and such.

I wouldn't bother cutting up movement trays to base the buildings, as you can get sturdier and cheaper results cutting bases out of a sheet of hardboard from your local home improvement store.
Thin, creeping vines can be sculpted with greenstuff, but it's the more cost and labor intensive option. You can get good looking growth by simple applying jagged lines of PVA, then sprinkling with green flock (you want small grains, not blades, so use fine turf ground cover, not static grass) or, in the case of dead vines, dried herbs. Honestly, I wouldn't use pipe cleaners, as they'll always look like pipe cleaners.
For your flora, head over to your local pet store. Aquarium plants are pretty much a necessity for any jungle board. GW does put out a jungle trees sprue, but most folks here will advise against it, as the trunks are pretty flimsy (personally, I question how people use their terrain if these things are falling apart on them) and you'd have to pay a lot more to cover a table with them, as opposed to aquarium plants (mixing might look a bit odd). You can also find similar plastic plants at craft stores in the floral section.
Don't forget that both jungles and swamps are quite damp, so you'll want water damage on your ruined buildings (stained, cracked stone or rusted steel), otherwise they'll look out of place.
You seem to have a decent idea of what you want to do with the stuff you already have. As for new stuff, I would definitely recommend making a few small but very dense stands of jungle plants to use as impassable scatter terrain, as well as some sparser foliage for area terrain, to really carry the theme. No sense in jungle-izing your buildings if there's no jungle, right?

Having a look at that book would be nice mate. Thanks for the ideas.

I do like the idea of the building damage, rusting metal struts would look great.

To make swamps you could get a sheet of plastic card and paint it green and then gloss it, maybe then add a space marine by cutting it at the legs to make it look deep.

As with any thick vegetation, remember to actually leave room for troops to move! I've seen some beautiful forests/swamps etc that were almost useless for playing (other than counting as impassable terrain) because the maker forgot to leave 1" gaps to actually move through it. Or another option is to have lots of moveable plants which you literally push to one side as troops move through - but if so, be very careful about the edges of such terrain, as it can cause TLOS issues.
