Ancient Ultramarine Venerable Dreadnought
|
Alright chaps,
Ive been listening to the Garro audio book "Oath of moment" and Im somewhat confused, the battle is raging on Calth, and the Ultramarines are getting malleted by the wordbearers, I thought that the Ultramarines were super nails, so Horus was smart and sent them off to the fringe of the galaxy so they wouldnt be in the way, and this is why there were "largely unscathed" by the HH and therefore made the most chapters via their geneseed.
Is Garro in contradiction to the fluff in the 5th ed codex?
Im confused...
Oh but its a great listen! Anyone heard the second one?

I think they mean "largely unscathed" in relation to the other legions. The salamanders, raven guard and iron warriors were almost completely wiped out for example. Also due to their huge recruitment in relation to other legions, the ultramarines were far larger than them.

And heaven forbid if the Marine would also happen to have an intimidating looking, vertical scar. Then you're surly boned. Those guys are the worst. Not a chance I'd say.

This
The Raven Guard, Iron Hands and Salamanders were pretty much decimated on Istvaan V by the traitors with very few escaping, the Iron Hands I think were by far hit the hardest with very few escaping at all.

Wrathful Warlord Titan Commander

The attack on Calth was known for some time.
The WB had some success early but got stuck there and as one of the bigger Legions may had the numbers to keep the UM busy.
Garros job was to recrut and he did, no matter where he had to pick the recruts up.
No Legion was unscathed.
- the traitors lost the loyal elements, mostly marines from the first recrutement batch at Terra. ( istvan 3, etc IIRC )
- the traitors also suffered, marines vs marines isn't a battle of low casualties..
- Raven Guard, Salamanders and Iron Hands were tricked into a trap, but escaped.
- RG had about 3k ( HH ravens flight? )
- Salamanders were small from start and weree not split in 2nd founding, so maybe less than 2k
- Iron Hands lost their Primarch and veterans, not much of the whereabouts of the rest.
- Space wolves fought at prospero
- T-sons were reduced to 1k...
- Blood angels were tricked to a demon world. May have lost some marines there
- Alpha legion assailed SW and WS somewhere IIRC
The HH series is still goin.
Confirmed is after Heresy :
- 23+ successors of the UM
- 3+ of RG, IH, WS,IF
- 6+ of BA and DA
- Salamanders and SW not split.
and thats the known ones, in a tome written at hundreds of years after the Heresy.
Depends on GW's actual idea of legion sizes, how hard any specific Legion was hit.
They tell us the T-sons were down to 1k of sons, so thats a given.
Other legions? who knows.

the fight at Calth was mostly the Word Bearers keeping the Ultramarines contained and unable to come to the Emperor's aid.
the Word Bearers weren't supposed to destroy the Ultramarines. that would have been nearly impossable.
if Horus hadn't sent the Word Bearers agains the Ultras, they would have gotten to Terra and rocked Horus's back side soooo hard he would have had to flee to the EoT and wouldn't have fought the Emperor.
then the Heresy would have lasted for a loooooong time, possably even to the present time pieriod.
