Subject: Does activating a force weapon use a psychic power?

I know this is a dumb question, but someone made the claim that activating a force weapon uses a psychic power use. So if a mastery level one psyker uses hammerhand, does that mean that unit can't activate force weapons?

Correct. See the box on Force Weapons on page 50. Activating the force weapon is a psychic power.
So if a mastery level one psyker uses hammerhand, does that mean that unit can't activate force weapons?
Also correct.

It also says that it confers one extra power. Doesn't this mean they get to use one extra power?

No, it means that they have one additional power (the Force Weapon's Instakill ability) to choose from. It doesn't say that they can use an additional power per turn.

Comes down to what kind of opponent you are facing.
Is the foe a Psyker, a Daemon, or a 1 wound model?
If yes; cast Hammerhand.
Is the foe a multi-wound model(or models), that is(are) neither a Psyker nor a Daemon?
If yes; Activate the force weapons.

Force weapons are only good against multi-wound models - most of the time other powers will be better.

At least now I will actually use Draigo's 2 powers...because before I only used one because I think his sanctified flame or whatever sucks.
