Layout: I have a thunderfire cannon (and techmarine) with my dreadnaught standing directly in front of it. Straight ahead is the opponents Vindicator. (The Dreadnaught is between the two units)

He chooses to shoot at the dreadnaught and scores a direct hit. My Thunderfire cannon and techmarine are both under the template as well.

Several questions arise

Does the blast hit both the thunderfire cannon and the techmarine or is it randomized?

Does it hit the thunderfire cannon at half strength?

Do I get a cover save since LOS was blocked by the shooter?

BONUS QUESTION: For Barrage attacks you decide on cover from the center. If the barrrage scores a direct hit on a vehicle can the hit vehicle act as cover for anything else also under the template.

1. UNIT is hit. Randomise using "artillery unit rules" in the rulebook (p55).
2 If it hits the gun, and the centre hole is not over the gun, then yes, it IS at half strength. If it hits the tchmarine gunner, he cops S10.

3 I'd give the unit a cover save, as the dread is the target, and the (arty) unit is probably obscured from the shooter.

Bonus: Hard to say.

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).

Chromedog has most of it;

slight clarification for #1: if there are both models, the TFC and the tech; then you randomize 2 hits, because 2 models in the unit are hit.

Everything else is spot on.

This is my Rulebook. There are many Like it, but this one is mine. Without me, my rulebook is useless. Without my rulebook, I am useless.

Agree with Kel/Chromedog.

For barrage attacks (as opposed to direct fire like a Vindicator) I would tend to say that the vehicle itself would offer cover.

Is the Thunderfire cannon a vehicle? If yes that the hit counts as half strength (assumign the cannon is not under the dot but still under the template), if not then the hit is full strength.

2 hits on the unit, you randomly allocate the hits as per artillery rules. Any hits on the cannon would be S5, while those that hit the Techmarine would be S10.

Sorry, it's been a whiel since i played........ransodmise the wounds?

Sligtly different example: my Vindi round lands on a squad of CSMs. 6 of them are beneath the template, the rest are not. Do i have to ransomdise the wounds or just roll 6 "to wound" dice?

Yeah, when you hit a member of an artillery unit you roll a D6. 1-4 and the hit is on the weapon system, 5-6 and it's a crew.
