Deployment: Spearhead
Mission. Capture and Control
Extra rule: Instead of only counting objectives held at the last turn, we have a cumulative score for every objective held at the end of the opponents turn.
I, Necrons, win roll, and deploy first.
The game plan was to lure out his sluggas and such, then Veil behind his lines and steal the objective. Pariahs would provide some
CC skills against his harder units, and some gauss needed in the first turn. Stalker and Destroyer Lord would just be
CC beasts. Destroyers were going to do what detroyers do best, and the Spyder is just going to lurk.
Objective is in the centre of the crater behind the ruin.
His
SAG is deployed in unit with the painted Shoota mob, and is threatening my Destroyers, eek! I also notice his Trukk ready to drive out and reach my front line quickly with the Warboss and Nob payload. Kans are screening one Slugga mob, Warbikers are screening the other. I'm not sure what the koptas targets are, but his lootas are also rather disturbing.
He fails to seize initiative, and I promptly start my first turn.
Scarabs all turbo boos forward, giving my Destroyer Lord, Tomb Stalker and Pariahs (who moved in behind them) a protective screen against his warbikers and nobs.
Monolith hovers ponderously forward 6", between the two craters.
Destroyers move in behind Tomb Spyder, hoping to claim some cover from enemy shooting in the forthcoming turn.
And then I open fire.
Stalker fires wildly into the air, killing a totally irrelevant bird passing by.
Monolith whips into the biker / Sluggas, and successfully annihilates TWO BOYZ AND TWO BIKERS.
Destroyers do a little better, and kills three bikers and wounds the nob. The nob, being all big an' loud an' mighty, decides that it would be a cunnin' plan to just flee, and drives away, going along the length of his frontline while every other ork just stands there, watching him go.
Pariahs also do a good job, firing at the Trukk, getting a Destroyed! result against the Trukk. However, his ramshackle gets him a Kareen!, and the Trukk promptly drives straight into the Scarab-wall, before exploding in a beautiful, 6" radius ball of fire, killing 5 Shoota Boyz, wounding their nob, and sadly getting two wounds on my scarabs (forgot their coversave, ehe...)
Also, the Spyder gets himself a Scarab friend.
I end my turn, and my Ork opponent gets one point for holding his objective.
End of Necron turn 1:
Ork turn 1:
His two slugga squads footslogs forward, one still being covered by the Kans. The Kans and the Slugga-boyz following them head right for the Monolith, while his other Slugga-boyz follow them.
One Kopta flies up to sit next to the
SAG Mek, but accidentally crashes into the wall and takes a wound. The other Kopta moves in behind the Nobs.
Ork Shooting Phase (waits for laughter):
The warbiker, in lack of targets, decides that the scarabs are GOING
TO DIE! and fires dakka upon them. One shot hits, and I smile as i roll the 2+ cover save for it. Then I feel the horror and despair clutching me as a 1 comes up, taking the third wound from my already wounded Scarab.
Meanwhile, Sluggas and Kans run.
Lootas fire a grand total of 27 shots into my poor Destroyer squadron, and one of them falls down... Well, I can't complain about that.
A kopta wounds my Stalker.
The nobs with burnas burn some more of the poor little Scarabs into pieces.
And for the grand finale: The Mek with
SAG sees my Destroyers, weak and helpless... And fires straight into their mist. However, the snake eyes are watching, killing the Mek and everything within 1" of him. The kopta who had crashed into the wall just moments before got a ending quite unlike the one he had suspected he would.
Then the assault, and the Nobs + Warboss eats my Scarab Swarms with their Power Klaws. However, one Scarab is a good Scarab and wounds a nob. Wohoo!
I get one point for holding my objective. Score is 1 - 1
End of Orks turn 1:
Necrons turn 2:
My downed Destroyer fails its
WBB, and I remove him from the board.
I knew it still was too early to Veil for the Orks objective, so my warriors in the ruin just stood their ground.
The warriors holding the objective were beginning to fear the Kommandos coming up behind, so they move up to the ruin, as close as they can (even running a bit to get there), while a little konga-line ensure that I keep the objective. The Tomb Spyder begins to walk towards them to intercept the Kommandos.
Stalker, Pariahs and Destroyer Lord unite forces in front of the nobs. I knew this was my one chance at killing them, and I had to take it.
Destroyers move up close to the crater in the centre so that they may get a free
LoS to the Kans.
Monolith rumbles a little bit backwards.
LE SHOOTING PHASE!
Destroyers destroy both of the Kans, living up to their name.
Monolith whips the Slugga Boys, who know lack the Kanwall who had protected them. However, a change of priorites scatters the shot straight onto the wounded, fleeing nob biker. THERE SHALL BE NO SURVIVORS, ONLY DEATH.
The Pariahs open fire, and they fire well, wounding a nob as well as the Painboy.
The Stalker however still considers birds a larger threat, and kills them instead.
The Spyder rushes to cover the last inches between himself and the crater, so that he may cut off the route from the board edge to my warriors. However, the 1" rush doesn't quite do the trick, and there is still a highway for the Kommandos into my 12-man unit. Eep!
And then goes my assault, and I was holding my thumbs for some good rolling.
The Lord does his part, placing two wounds upon the Nobs, and Pariahs gives 'em three. Neither invulnerable saves or
FNP helps against their mighty Warscythes, hah!
My stalker however is still killing birds and butterflies. 5 misses of 6 attacks, and the hit ends up as a 1. I really need to teach him who the opponents are.
The nobs roll poorly too though, only getting two wounds upon my Lord, who was out of phase with reality at the time.
However, his Warboss does great, and kills my Stalker with plenty of wounds to spare, and combat is lost on my side with 1. Lord stands his ground, but one Pariah dies due to No Retreat! wounds.
Still fearing that the Kommandos will annihilate my warriors, my Spyder spawns one more Scarab friend, which is placed in coherency so that the gap is closed.
Orks get one point for still holding the objective at the end of the turn.
End of Necrons turn 2:
Orks turn 2:
Roll for reserves ensure the Kommandos arrival.
Sluggaboyz move to kill the Destroyers. My mistake here, I should have kept them further back.
The other Sluggaboyz move towards the Monolith, intending on having their Nob trying to affect it -arrogant laughter-.
The Kommandos move up towards the Spyder, as planned.
And then... WAAAGH!
SLUGGABOYZ RUN FORWARD! WAAAGH!
OTHER SLUGGABOYZ RUN FORWARD! WAAAGH!
LOOTAS UNLEASHES HELL ON MY 20-MAN BLOB, AND ONE FALLS!
KOPTA FIRES
AT THE SPYDER, REMOVING THE SPARE SCARAB AND PUMPING UP MAJORITY TOUGHNESS
TO 6 AGAIN!
KOMMANDOS RUN FORWARD! WAAAGH!
... Well, not too exciting
imo. Oh well.
The Sluggaboyz assault the Monolith. Nothing happens.
The other Sluggaboyz assault the Destroyers, and they destroy the Destroyers. Oh well.
My Pariahs keeps doing well, getting in 2 wounds on the nobs. My Lord too gets in 2 wounds. Good Lord -patpat-.
The Nobs only succeed in killing one Pariah due to bad rolling. The Warboss finish of the remaining two ones. Which means that I win combat, but leadership is passed.
The Kommandos charge my Spyder and Scarab. They inflict 4 wounds, but I save 3 of those. Then my mechanoid insects strike back, killing three of the Kommandos, and the combat stays locked.
I gain no point since the Kommandos are close enough to the objective to contest it.
Score is now Orks 2, Necrons 1
End of Orks turn 2.
Necrons turn 3:
WBB is passed for the sole warrior lying down.
My 12-man unit decide that they will exterminate the pesky Kommandos with their own hands, and moves up beside them. My other unit uses the Veil of Darkness to deepstrike in behind the enemy objective. A hit is scored, and they land perfectly.
Monolith backs up a bit.
A pretty sweet landing.
The shooting phase goes well for the newly deepstriked warriors. Rapid fire kills every Shootaboy except for the Nob, who just runs away instead.
And here I made a huge mistake: I FORGOT
TO FIRE THE MONOLITH. I don't think I'll ever forgive myself for that. Gah.
Anyways, then the assault phase is commenced.
My Destroyer Lord wounds a nob, taking two wounds back. He's on the verge of his death now.
Power Weapons (Burnas) kill two of my warriors, and the scarab takes a wound from the Kommandos. My warriors then strike back, wounding Snikrot and killing 5 kommandos, and my Spyder kills two. However, the Kommandos stand their ground.
Orks hold no objective, so no point.
End of Necrons turn 3.
Orks turn 3:
The Sluggaboyz who just destroyed the Destroyers move towards my Lord, intent on ending his life. The other Sluggaboyz tries to Move through cover through the creater, but snake eyes says otherwise.
In the Shooting Phase, Lootas courageously downs three warriors from the 20-man blob. And that's all the shooting.
The Sluggaboys assaulting the Monolith fails to do anything again.
However, my Lord loses his last wound in the Close Combat and fall (after some rather insane rolling on the Sluggaboyz side). However, the Lord manage to kill a Nob.
My warriors with the Spyder ends the life of Snikrot and his last Kommando, and then consolidates into the crater beside the objective.
I only hold my own objective this turn (20-man blob too far away from the Ork objective), so I only gain 1 point.
The score is now 2 - 2.
End of Ork turn 3.
Necrons turn 4:
My Destroyer Lord passes
WBB, and stands up. YAY!
My big Squad moves up closer to finish the Lootas and claim the objective. Big mistake on my part.
The Monolith whips the Sluggaboyz who just kille the Destroyer Lord, killing 9 of them.
My big unit unleashes a merciless rain of Gauss death upon the nine lootas, intent on exterminating them all. "GET YER 'EADS DOWN!" one of the Lootas shout, as they go to ground, and when the shooting subsides, three of them are still standing.. Or well, lying on the ground alive.
My Destroyer Lord then decides to try to beat the odds and tie combat with the Sluggas, and charges them. They roll their insane rolls again, and kills the Lord.
Now, this turn was my biggest mistake
imo. I shouldn't have fired on the Lootas, I should have poured everything into the Sluggas. Instead, now they just consolidated closed to my big unit.
However, he holds no objectives, and recieves no point.
End of Necrons turn 4.
Orks turn 4: The Warboss rushes towards the Monolith, and the Sluggas in contact with it stays there. The sluggas who just killed my Destroyer Lord a second time heads for the bigger unit.
The Kopta opens fire at the Spyder, doing nothing.
The Sluggas over at the Ork objective open fire at my big unit, doing nothing.
Orks shooting the way they're meant to.
And then.. The assaults.
The Sluggaboyz who are fighting the Monolith succeeds in immobilizing it, so that the Warboss and his comrades with Klaw will auto-hit it. Doesn't take long before the Monolith is a smoking wreck.
On the other side of the battlefield, the Sluggaboyz assault my big unit of warriors.
The scene reminded me of a "last stand". My Lord, named Saev'
ib, strikes first, and does his part by decapitating two of the Krork scum. Then his boyz strike, downing six of my warriors. They fight valiantly and well, but some saving on the Orks side results in only 2 casualities. Then, lastly strikes the Power Klaw, downing 2 more of my warrior. Combat is lost by 4, and I roll the leadership...
A six and a three stares back at me.
We pit initiative against each other. I roll a three. He rolls a three. It's a tie, and a tie means he wins. Sweeping advance kills all my warriors, and my Lord.
However, I hold my own objective, and gain a point.
Score is now Necrons 3, Orks 2.
End of Orks turn 4.
Necrons turn 5
My Destroyer Lord fails his
WBB, and is removed.
The only thing I have left is a Spyder with a Scarab Base, and ten warriors.
My Phase Out limit is nine. One more casuality will be enough for my loss.
The Spyder once again moves up to intercept the Boyz, who are going to rush through the ruin. My warriors back up , going towards the board edge, behind the crater, but still holding the objective. The Spyder spawns another Scarab Swarm to cover more area (another mistake of mine, it wasn't needed. And I should have moved the Spyder closer to the ruin).
Orks now held their own objective again, and so they gain a point.
Score is now 3 - 3
End of Necrons turn 5
Orks turn 5:
He moves his Sluggaboyz through the ruins, and his Warboss around it. Kopta flies forward.
The Warboss and his nobs run.
And the Kopta opens fire.
It hits, S8 AP3.
I go to ground behind the crater, and roll my cover save...
It comes up a 4, enough to save the hit!
Then the sluggas rush through the ruin wall, ripping up my spyder, and consolidating 5", straight into the crater.
He contests my objective, and the score remains 3 - 3
We roll for the end of the game, and a one comes up.
The game is a tie.
Well, that's it. What do you think, both regarding gameplay and the report?
