Hey there, just wondering what are the rules on bases? Does a single dude (thets say IG ) have to be on a 25mm base due to close combat, unit cohearancy etc? Surely so, e.g. a blast marker is placed on the head of the figure, so if the figure is mounted on a 40mm along with the rest of his unit the scatter may not be as significant as theoretically he is further away from his team mates. I mainly ask this because of the lovely new style 30mm bases. So what do you guys think?

30mm base, lovely to mount basic IG guardsmen on.

As I understand it, making a base bigger is perfectly fair, because while it means you can shoot and assault farther, it also makes you a bigger target. I have some terminators mounted on the 25mm bases and some on the larger ones; it's never been a problem for me yet.

hmmm, ok cheers. There is nothing in the rules about it, so I guess its fair. Perhaps the general rule of the smallest base you can squeeze your guys on!

I have a sudden image of a horde of Kroot all mounted on Dreadnought bases covering three quarters of the board.

Maybe there should be restrictions...

I agree! I suppose GW are so cought up in their own models they don't realise people may want different (nicer ) bases rather than the ones they supply with their sets

You need to put the models on the base they are supplied with, back in 4th it was okay to put them on larger bases but it no longer the case.
When dealing with models that came with different sized bases it's acceptable (Like when Termies came on 25mm and now 40mm.)

You're bound to come up against someone who won't play you with non-standard bases. To be fair, it will alter the balance of the game, if only slightly. Personally, I would go with the old 25mm ones.

The rulebook says you must put them on the base they come with, but makes an exception for scenic bases and the like, noting that they're okay so long as you get an opponent's permission.

As the others said, the rules say you must get models with the base they come with. Feel free to use scenic bases, but you have to ask opponents permission. I definitely will be annoyed and refuse Kroot mounted on Dread or Trygon bases.

However, things like movement trays I'm more than willing to accept. Heck, I use movement trays fro my guard!

I think only a few mm in the difference won't change much.
Go for it if you want.
