I'm looking for a new car and both of these fit the bill as an option. I honestly can't decide.

Both are AWD and turbo'd. The Evo pulls 291 HP and 300 torque. The STi pulls 305 HP and a little less than 300 torque (IIRC)...the Evo has a better/smoother ride, but the STi is a little faster (13.5 for STi and 13.8 for Evo in the quarter) and has more road noise. Both have the same MSRP.

Also, the STi has the tried and true boxer motor. I've know several people that would say aside from the Honda D15, the Subaru Boxer motor is one of the easiest/best motors to mod EVAR

I don't know anyone that owns/driven/worked on an Evo, so I have no idea what they're like...I do know I prefer the Evo body/interior to the STi body/interior.

Any help or advice to make my decision easier???

I'm not a real gearhead, but these are possibly my two favorite cars in the world.

For day to day driving, I'd lean toward the Evo, which as you said has a smoother ride and less road noise. But being from New Hampshire, where Subaru's been popular since I was a kid, I have a big soft spot for the WRX, and would probably choose it if I were in your position.

Id say it depends alot on what your actually planning on using the car for. IF your using it for a daily driver and such, then go for the one with the better ride and designs you like. Who cares if its slightly slower.

Now if your going to be ragging the piss out of it and general horse play, then go with the one thats a bit faster and easier to mod.

Evo will provide a smoother ride and actually looks good. However, it does not sound as powerful as the Subaru.

However, the subaru will give you back problems due to the rough suspension, and on top of this, the Subaru's now look like ass

I have a lot of fond memories of tuning my friend's STI in high school, so I'm certainly biased in that regard. But, speaking to that experience, the boxer is fantastic to work on. I had a '95 Civic in high school that was a nightmare by comparison (though that was largely because of the B16 swap).

I currently have a '93 Civic hatchbak as my daily driver, and that thing has taken some abuse. Hell, I drive it while it was off time for about a month (replaced a timing belt/water pump and didn't notice the cam moved)...when (if) the motor craps out on me, I'll be spending my extra cash on mods instead of 40k/airsoft

From those two choices I'd say go with the Evo.

Of course, if it was pure (Affordable) Speed you were after I'd get a Corvette

I was once driven round Honda's Motegi Twin Ring track in an Evolution Lancer by a professional racing driver. I was nearly sick.

So go for the Evo.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.
