Sybarite Swinging an Agonizer

Deus Incognitus

Ive been messing around with a lot of different lists lately because I am planning to purchase more units, So in order to avoid spamming the forum with the two dozen lists I made, I am just going to start with the one I think may be the most fun.( I'd like it to win some too though)

HQ
Duke Sliscus
-150

Archon
Husk Blade
Combat Drugs
Soul Trap
Shadowfield
145

Elites

x8 Trueborn
6 Shardcarbines
2 splinter cannons
in raider w/Flickerfield, Nightshield
-226

x4 Trueborn
w/ 4 blaster
venom w/ splintercannon
-173

Troops
x9 wyches haywire grenades
Hekatrix Agonizer,
in raider w/ ff
-208

x9 wyches haywire grenades
Hekatrix Agonizer,
in raider
-198

x9 wyches haywire grenades
Hekatrix Agonizer,
in raider w/ff
-208

x8 wyches haywire grenades
Hekatrix Agonizer,
in raider w/ ff
-196

Heavy
Ravager w/ flicker
115
Ravager w/ flicker
115
Ravager w/ flicker
115

=1849

Ok so for my strategy I will start by explaining the HQ choices. Sliscus because he can give a reroll on the drugs. This means I get extra chance at a 6, If I get a 6, that means everything in this army starts with a pain token, because even my Archon does drugs... And Sliscus starts the combat out of his transport with the trueborn, but leaves to join a unit of wyches.

The Archon I have made out here is quite expensive. And a little guidance here might be necessary. I used to equip him with an Agonizer. But I am thinking huskblade and soul trap combo because having Sliscus means I can give him an extra chance at increasing his Strength by 1. Then killing an IC will double his strength. I need the PGL because hes going with the incubi, and there is only four of them, they need their initiative. Maybe the Archon is quite a point sink here.

Elites
Trueborn, I think this is the best option for a Sliscus enhanced trueborn squad, correct me if i'm wrong.
Incubi =edited for trueborn blasters

Troops.
The only real question I have on the wych squad, is if dropping flicker fields on their raiders is a good idea. I can get them into close combat pretty quickly and after I do the flicker fields are useless.

Heavy
durpa doo...

Beyond these individual choices. I foresee the list running into lots of problems against mech heavy lists. So without it being a TAC tourney ready list, how will it fair against mostly balanced opponents.

I guess I'll actually start at the ending, since I suspect answering these questions will save me from repeating myself.

I generally find when running a Huskblade/Soul Trap Lord that the things I want to charge with him are things I don't want to risk my precious Incubi fighting. I consider Incubi troop killers (preferably big Tactical squads of Marines and their ilk) I don't like my Incubi hunting down stuff like Assault Termies, or MCs, or Nob squadz, or TWC, or...y'know, MCs and all the various things ICs are usually attached to? I find Wyches work better, because Wyches are harder to kill and help tarpit the unit down while I transform the Archon into a hideous being of superhuman size and strength. I'd suggest either setting up the Lord with Wyches or focusing him on just being some extra oomph for the Incubi. I agree that he is currently more of a point sink than a viable aid to the army.

I would personally add in Splinter Cannons to the squad.
8 Trueborn w. 6 Carbines and 2 S.Cannons - 146 (18 poison shots at 18" range + 8 or 12 at 36" range - total 26/30)
9 Trueborn w. 9 Carbines - 153 (27 poisoned shots at 18" range)
Cheaper, better range, more shooting = no brainer.
Especially the better range, lets you bring the functional pain of the Baron that much sooner.

Flickerfields are never useless. They protect the dark lance weapon platform and objective contesting fast skimmer that will still be a major threat to any enemy vehicle even after their Wych cargo is deployed - plus they are super tech if your opponent gets the first round of shooting.

I do not consider mech heavy to be antonymous to TAC or "balanced" - pretty much every TAC army I play is mech heavy and also balanced in my opinion. If by "balanced" you really mean non-tourney level list then, certainly, this list will do fine. Any list does, really. I think this list could be a tourney level list if tweaked tighter.

I personally think you don't need either the Incubi or the Archon - as the Wyches are a more than decent assault element by themselves and for the points saved you could field a lot of different things. You would benefit with a bit more anti-tank as you noted.

Thanks very much Thor, informative as always.

I am taking your advice on dropping the Incubi. Because you are absolutely right. Tarpitting a unit giving me time to let my archon swing away on an IC is optimal. I will put him with the 8 wyches, then there is also room in that transport for the Duke, slashing special venom blades at those elite units. Since he is no longer with the Incubi I dropped the PGL. I also decreased the size of the sliscus trueborn to 8 down from 10, and gave them 2 splinter cannons.

Points saved let me put in a x4 unit of blaster trueborn in a venom. Gave flicker fields to 3/4 wych raiders, Now Im wondering if dropping points somewhere would be a good idea, in order to give it to the 4th wych unit. The only expendable thing I find is the Nightshield on the trueborn boat. The thing is though, I imagine the trueborn boat being more of a target than a wych filled raider. And it will deffinitly be a target longer, after the wyches are out.

I feel much more comfortable about this list if I ran against heavy mech lists.

I think I have a total of 19 anti mech weapons here, not to mention all them haywire grenades.
14 dark lances
4 blasters
1 blast pistol

(I did these changes without my codex. Hopefully didnt screw it up to bad.)
