Somewhere in south-central England.

Learn how the following things work:

Exposure -- This is the relationship between the light available, the film speed, aperture and shutter speed.

Depth of field -- This depends on length of lens and aperture and governs the depth of the picture in focus.

Perspective distortion -- This depends on length of lens and position relative to the subject.

The rule of thirds -- This is an aesthetic rule about how to frame shots.

Lighting, flash and fill flash -- How to make the best use of natural lights, your flash, and reflectors.

Get a tripod.

Look at lots of good photos to see how the photographer uses techniques.

Take a lot of shots and criticise them. Learn from your mistakes.

Don't show your pictures to anyone until you have selected the best ones and removed the rubbish.

Wait for people to say, "Wow, you've got a good camera!"

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

Hmm.....from what I can see, you have a bog standard digital camera there. There's no Macro mode, so its not especially well suited for miniatures. 12 Megapixels is excellent on detail, but it may reveal painting flaws you'd rather it didn't.....

Tbh, looking at the specs on that sight, that camera is more suited to holiday snaps than miniature photography.

However, that aside, basic tips. Keep your ISO down to 200 or so, your light meter at 0, , and make sure you adjust the white balance when photographing indoors, in order to remove the orange tint.

In general point and shoots will be better for miniature photography for the simple fact that their sensors are quite small and as such you can have a lot more in focus. Provided you have a good light source and some way of stabilizing you can take some damn fine pictures.

Do you play 30k? It'd be a lot cooler if you did.
