Bought the DoW 2 boxed set yesterday, went out to get my laptop repaired the week before expressly so I couldplay it, 24 hours of updates and error messages later I finally manage to install it, only for it to take 2 hours (and counting) to update - can someone please tell me that it's been worth losing my weekend to this BS?!

They're pretty good, though I don't feel they ever topped Company of Heroes. I kind of preferred the base-building format of the DoW1 games, as well as Dark Crusade's open, Risk-style campaign.

Still, DoW2 is good for regular sessions of semi-tactical mayhem.

So they're more squad based as opposed to base building? Shoulda done my research!

I've been playing Dark Crusade, kicking ass with the eldar, ripping some CSM heads off pretty well. Can't say I know Company of Heros though

DOWII is fun, although the single player is a little too easy. Havn't really played the multi-player much though.
Yes, it is a squad based, there is no base building.

Also, I would suggest if your going to be gaming, don't use a laptop Yes they are more powerful today then they were 5 years ago, I still don't think it's worth it. The small form factor is not designed to dissipate heat like a Desktop can, and the increase in heat can decrease it's lifespan.

World War II themed games using the same engine. Very gritty, and not as frantic and arcadey as Dawn of War.

Doesn't the multiplayer still feature base building?

Technically the form factor (size specifically) of the exterior casing has nothing intrinsically to do with heat dissipation and laptops often have much more efficient cooling systems due to their ability to directly channel airflow over important components. That said they still typically get very hot due to the nature of their component placement. I also doubt he's gonna run out and grab a desktop on your suggestion that his laptop isn't too "great".

Dang, I meant skirmishes but they probably don't have base building either.

Just youtube some tournament game videos. Preferably shoutcasted ones. The multiplayer has a very unique and interesting dynamic to it.

Reckin that I'll definitely be in the market for a proper gaming station at some point soon - i finally managed to get Chaos Rising installed and it runs as slow as looking through a photo album with me nan!

I'm an Xbox man predominantly but the DoW series isnt on console (plus that style of game is naff for console gaming anyway - lack of mouse and keyboard, I'll never understand why Microsoft hasnt released these already)

Re the heat dissipation, I think that's what broke the damned tihng in thefirst place, soI've gone out and got a laptop 'raiser' to keep the keat sinks off the deskmore - hopefully this'll help going forward.

Shame Icant play it though! Who wants to buy it off me?!
