Head on over to the NJ Gamer group on facebook, NJ has a large gaming community and alot of great events. The localish events that I go to are listed below.
Templecon (Awsome event, its in Rhode Island definatly one of my favorite conventions.)
Dreamation (Light on the wargames, it has more to do with RPG's and LARPS. But its in Morristown and doesnt get much more local.)
Pax East (One of the largest video game conventions has grown into more of a gaming convention. They had a huge amount of table top gaming there, with a promise of more this year. Its definatly a high energy con that I recommend going to. The only downside to this is that its in Boston and the whole trip ended up costing me more then I expected.)
Colonial GT (This started its life as a GT, but it has been turning into more of a convention over the years. Its a fun event and a great GT, its in Summerville I think.)
NJCon (A small event, this is going to be my first time going to it, either way it should be fun. Its in two weeks, but I forget the name of the town its going to be in.)
Dexcon (This is Dreamations larger cousin. It has more space set aside Wargaming, but there are alot of other things going down, including naked twister, which I recommend you avoid.)
Historicon (One of the biggest historical conventions out there, and in the last several years it has branched out into SciFi and Fantasy. Unfortunatly it occupies the same weeked as Dexcon, if I had to suggest one over the other I'd suggest Historicon.)
The Warstore Weekend (This convention is only in its second year, but its put on by Neil over at the Warstore. NJ Gamer had a big hand in it last year and we plan on even more this year. I highly recommend this convention.)
There are alot more conventions in the area, but I threw up the ones that I could remmember off the top of my head, they tend to blend together...
