What kind of daemons generally go into daemonhosts? Is it just lesser daemons or can greater daemons or daemon princes be put into them as well?

also, do different types of daemon make a different kind of daemonhost? The rules don't seem to give any kind of indication of what affiliation daemonns have or the impact on their abilities.

Thus do we invoke the Machine God.

Thus do we make whole that which was sundered.

Daemon Princes can be put into Daemonhosts. Cherubael was a daemon prince of his own little world until Quixos captured him.

As for what kinds generally go in, probably powerful Daemons between Lesser Daemons and Greater Daemons/Daemon Princes. Daemons aren't so neatly categorized as Beasts < Lesser < Princes < Greater, that categorization shows the most common kinds and was also developed for gameplay reasons. There are tons of different kinds and variety of Daemons of all shapes/intellect/sizes, the very cover of Codex: Chaos Daemons shows this. In any regard most Daemonhosts presented in fluff usually come off as fairly intelligent and powerful, suggesting they're above Lesser's.

All daemons can be Daemon hosts but the more powerful they are the harder the binding is.

Well, the question is not so much 'What Daemons go into Daemonhosts?' as much as 'What Daemons would be WORTH going through the trouble of binding into a Daemon host? And Im glad somone mentioned Cherubael before me.

Seriously, go hunt down the Eisenhorn triology. Now. Before the Inquisiton find out the lack of.

Any, and as many as will fit. Thankfully, this is generally just one per host.

Daemon Princes, I believe, were once already-mortal champions of Chaos who won big on the Spawn-or-Prince crapshoot, and so already have their own body. They cannot, however, freely enter realspace without a lot of conditions and mumbo-jumbo being done to "open the door" for them. Of course, the definition of "Daemon Prince" has changed over the years, as has the methods of summoning them, so it's likely as probable now that a mortal host is required to house the Prince when he makes the translation.

also, do different types of daemon make a different kind of daemonhost? The rules don't seem to give any kind of indication of what affiliation daemonns have or the impact on their abilities.

Not really, though most daemon hosts will take on an appearance befitting the sort of daemon inside it. Hosts bearing a Daemonette will start getting the crab claws, gain (or lose) a breast, maybe get a tail, or take on the androgyne appearance, while one hosting a Bloodletter will get the chitin-like plates, the big head-crest, or leathery skin, scales and wicked claws.. or, really, whatever the host's original form will permit (and many things it would not normally permit!). What really differentiates Daemonhosts is the power of the daemon within it. A Daemonette and a Bloodletter are both Lesser Daemons (or were the last time I read a Chaos Codex) and so hosts of these two types will be generally the same, though their individual stats and powers may be different (as befits their respective Ruinous Power).

It is best to be a pessimist. You are usually right and, when you're wrong, you're pleasantly surprised.
