Hey everyone,
I am about to make a big FW purchase, $400 and I was wondering if I would get charge additional taxes as it is shipped over to Canada. $60 tax really does not appeal to me!
Thanks in advance.

If you buy from their website should be a no. If you order from flgs or gw store in your area then yes.

doesn't FW do a deal with if you order over a certain amount of models you get free shipping? you could maybe order a few more models or find someone else who wants FW models and combine your order with thiers?
if it relates, you could do that. you just better hope customs don't cut the package open and look for drugs

Yep, I had to spend £250 just to get free shipping! Completley ridiculous if you ask me...

Or find any suspicious "voids" when the x-ray it (our Customs are REQUIRED to drill them out to verify no contraband is being concealed) caused by air bubbles in the castings (larger models). Blame the drug smugglers smuggling horse and coke inside ceramic statues and so on.
Could be worse. Sometimes, the resin, still curing, gives off gases that 'smell' suspiciously like certain plastic explosives to the chemical sniffers (and the density is close to it as well).
These will get more "special" treatment (but you're canadian, so you should be fine.).
If it's labelled as a "toy" it will usually attract duties (Toys are NOT exempt from it. 'Scale models' generally are.). Canada seems to like taxing these things.
Here in Oz, we get a "$1000" cap for personal imports before duties are assessed (based on type of goods and so on, electronics are one rate, "toys" another) although if you are a 'frequent' importer (several $900-1000 purchases inside a month), the cap might be assessed at a lower value and they may start to assess at $900.

So if my models come to me full of holes with a note saying 'please refrain from shipping plastic explosives across the globe' I will know why!
I am not sure if FW labels their stuff as 'toys' or 'scale models'. Guess I will find out...

My experience of UK customs is like playing roulette, sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. You never know when you're going to get that letter through the post asking you to cough up some extortionate amount just to collect your stuff from the post office.
