This came up the other night in a game.

If a vehicle moves flat out or a jetbike turbo bikes do they have to do so in a straight line?

If a vehicle attempts to Ram! do they have to do so in a straight line?

A page reference would be nice as I could not find one. Much thanks!

1. Vehicles don't turbo boost.
2. Pages 68 and 69 for the ramming rules. You'll want to reread the second paragraph of ramming, and then the fifth paragraph under tank shock for where it says to move in straight line.

P. 76 for turbo-boosters: Basically you only have to end up 18 inches away to claim the the benefits of turbo-boosting but do not have to move in a straight line.

P. 68: As Ramming is a form of Tank Shock, then I would say yes you have to move in a straight line.

Page 70 has the Flat-out rules, it is total distance traveled being over 12" Straight line is not necessary.

Fast Skimmers moving Flat-out are the only ones that gain the cover save.

Straight line movement is necessary for Ramming, and you must move at the fastest speed possible, so 18" for a fast vehicle, 24" for a fast skimmer, 25"-36" for a Raider with Enhanced Aethersails.

Yeah, thought that was obvious but should have included it, thanks for the correction.

Yes, you have to move in a straight line when you turbo boost. It says it in the rules for turbo-boosting. I can't remember though if its in the bike or jetbike portion of the rules though.

no, it doesn't say anywhere in turbo boost that you must move in a straight line. It simply states the 18" part, and that you cannot move through difficult terrain, shoot, assault, or any other voluntary actions. Nohting in there about a straight line.

Straight line was 4th edition turbo-boost. Also instead of the flat 3+ cover for turbo boosting it turned your Armor save into invulnerable(Made Bikes Psycannon fodder, which didn't make any sense)

Gladly both parts were changed.

New turbo boost even specifies that along with having to end at least a Straight-line 18" away; that you cannot drive around in a big circle to gain the the cover save(you can still turbo boost in a big circle you just do not gain the cover save).

So my Valkyrie or Vendetta can't flat out in anything but a straight line if it want to gain that cover save?

No, flat out is different from Turbo-boost. If you declare flat out, as long as you move 12.000001", you will gt a 4+ cover.

Not correct.

You have to go in a straight line if you're Ramming or Tank Shocking.

So to clarify things...

Straight line movement is required for Ramming/ Tank Shocking

To Turbo Boost you just have to move more than 18'' but no straight line required

When you move Flat Out you can move however you want, no straight line required

Yes to all?

Not quite. To turbo boost, you have to move more than 12", but you only get the 3+ cover save if you end your movement more than 18" away from your start point.

Not exactly.

Technically, you can move any amount over 12" and be using your turboboost. However, in order to claim a cover save, you must end your movement more than 18" away from your start. This is different than just moving 18", as you have to figure in any turns you are making as well. 18" in a straight line will be further away than the same distance in a curved line.

X_______________________________B

Imagine the second line is just barely more than 18". The first X would not receive a cover save.
