Hey there, in a not too distant future (next Sunday A.D. ... ) I'll be doing another commissioned Space Wolves army, this time in the regular old 'Eavy Metal baby blue. I know, I know, many people don't like it. No need to talk about that now. I already did a grey Space Wolves army last year so if that's what kabingles your bongles, please have a look at my project log or my gallery here on dakka.

Anyway, what I'm looking for now is a nice, airbrushable base colour for this venture and it came to my attention that VMC Azure was perfect for that. Now I'm looking for a Vallejo Model Air colour that fits the regular VMC Azure very closely or maybe is another good base colour for light blue-grey Space Wolves.

Thanks in advance.

While I might look dumb asking this, why not just thin down the VMC color and shoot that from the airbrush if that is the color you like? It works quite well. I have thinned both Vallejo Game Color and Model Color and used them in my airbrush.

Thanks for the suggestions so far; both not without reason really.

I used to spray with thinned down VMC paints as well and they really kept clogging up my nozzle. Did you use thinner or water to thin the paints prior to airbrushing them?

Windex brand glass cleaner is what I have used to thin it. I saw it mentioned in a few video tutorials and a podcast and while skeptical at first, it works exceedingly well so far. Just keep in mind that different colors need different ratios of paint to windex from what I have been told. Start with a 1:1 ratio and play with it from there.

Woah, late reply there but thanks for the windex suggestion and I had to mention that I noticed that Vallejo's airbrush cleaner I use smells very much like window cleaner right away so there must be something about that.

VMC/VGC : dilute 2:1 or 3:1 (paint:water), add 1/4 total volume slow dry medium. Any more water and the paint will separate and clog up the airbrush.
