I've always been a massive fan of GW artwork and I'm sure a lot of other people are too. My current favourite (I suspect controversially) is artwork from C:Necrons - on the army list pages for the Lord and Warriors. They just capture the essence of what Necrons should be in my view.

So what is your favourite piece of Codex artwork?

On a hate rampage.

Tau cover.
It just looks so awesome, epic, and grand.
It also reminds me of geonosis from Star Wars:Attack of the Clones (Awful movie)

I like the artwork that they did for the Chaos Dreadnought on pages 40 and 87 of the CSM Codex. If they made a plastic model for it that looked that good, I'd buy two.

Most of the stuff from Codex: Tau, especially the cover.

Outside of that, the Storm Trooper in the new IG codex makes me want to buy a squad of them. I just really, really like that picture.

There are some who walk until their legs fail them and they fall to the ground. I find that respectable.
Then there are those who drag themselves further. I find that admirable.

One of the ones in the near front of the SW codex.
There is a SW terminator starting what essentially looks like a bar brawl with a Tyranid Carnifex...

Pg140-141 of the SM codex and somewhere in the BRB (i think as well, there's a full size and smaller version) with the ultramarines and a couple of dreadnoughts standing in formation (as far as the 'eye' can see and a chaplain is walking through the ranks inspecting every one of them.

I generally dislike this cover. It emphasizes the weird priests and servitor aspect of the Guard as opposed to the "common man" image. There's art early on in the book that I think should be the current codex cover:

I am pretty fond of a lot of the art in the DH codex, the new GK codex reuses quite a bit of it, but there are some nice ones in there as well.

This is like, my favorite picture ever.

10'000 years ago, Terra was under siege. The Sons of Rogal Dorn stood firm at the gate, never letting an inch slip away so long as we drew breath. We were killed in droves defending the Emperor and his Imperium, and we killed many in turn. We defended the Emperor and his Imperium, and this is what it means to be a Fist

The thing that caught my attention when I first switched to 40K. No silly OTT power armour. No Terminator skeletons. No silly green skins (no offence ). Just basic grunts with basic kit. Loved it. First 40K I ever bought was Cadian Shock Troops when they had that box art.

Much preferred when GW did box art instead of pictures of the models. That was better for the sides and back. I get why, to make it obvious which range/army they were from, to show you exactly what you get from the off and to standardize all the model boxes, but I liked it when they had art like other manufacturers (Revell etc). The current ones just feel a bit soulless really...

Rant over.

As much as I'd love to say DE, the 3.5 Chaos codex had the best interior artwork in my opinion... except for the cover.

As for covers, I think the 4e Tyranid 'dex (black and purple-red swarm IIRC) is well done and evocative of the universe.

Anything from Mark Gibbons. Unfortunately he has long since left Games Workshop. I quite prefered the sharpness in his art.
