So my friend tells me he is playing a space wolf assault marine in his 40k rpg and I get to thinking... Dont space wolves dislike flying?
Now I am led to believe by my old space wolf codex that space wolves don't use jump packs, except for some blood claws who are to crazy to bother with the "rules". Am I wrong in this, has it been retconned in the new codex?

I thought it was less 'awarded' and more 'given to the craziest of them so they might get all the crazy out their system'.

Yeah, SW don't like flying. The Skyclaws are the new guys.

You can also give Wolf Guard Jumppacks, which I would fluff out as having some of the Wolf Guard still being crazy.
That or having a mid-life crisis.

The Wolf Guard can be recruited from any pack so it's feasible they still use jump packs because they find it fun.
SW in general don't like it but Blood Claws are insane.

Technically calling it an "award" is not accurate. Quoting from memory, they put the most reckless and rebellious Blood Claws in the Skyclaws packs.
Basically, I see it as a "Ok, let's not turn into servitors... yet, let's just see if they mature a little or turn themselves into pulp in the name of the Allfather, what comes first."

It's not so much that they all dislike flying as much as its the fact that Russ didn't, so most Space Wolves feel they don;t need to. Obviously some DO like flying, as even after they graduate from Skyclaws, you have Grey Hunters that specialize in flying Land Speeders and Thunderhawks.

It's a "Dubious award" since you need to prove quite how insane you are first...
