I'm thinking of starting up an Imperial Guard army and was planning on using the Vostroyan Firstborn, so I took a look at GW's website and now I've got a question about the contents of the box. It says it contains options for a sergeant, 2 troops with a heavy bolter, and a trooper with a flamer. I'm guessing this means I get a total of 10 bodies with enough alternate arms/legs to make any of the others, or is GW being nice and actually giving me a full squad with sarge/flamer arm options + a heavy squad included?

I dont think they're that generous. You're probably gettting 6 normal troopers, a sarge, a special weapons, and a heavy weapons team.

There's no alternate parts for Vostroyans. One piece metals. 6 lasgunners, a sergeant, grenade launcher and a heavy bolter team.

I did a bit more googling while you guys were typing and found the answer to my question. The squad comes exactly as pictured on GW's website; 6 troopers w/ lasguns, 1 sarge w/ pistol, 1 trooper w/ flamer, 1 heavy weapon team w/ heavy bolter. So 10 bodies total and no varying options.

With how popular guard armies are currently I wish they'd make a plastic infantry box similar to the cadian/catachan boxes. I wouldn't care if the heavy weapons/command squad stayed metal as most of a guard army is 10 man squads. I know I only want roughly a 1000pts so I'd have an alternative to my current ~5000 points of Dark Angels.

Even though they are single piece metal models they are some of the coolest warriors GW has made.

Hard to make a full army with the death of metal and the general cost but great as Vet's or anything else you like.

I'm truely envious of anyone owning a full, platoon army of them. I also know it will look awesome if anyone does.

I was wanting to do something along the lines of 4 vet squads and a command squad with chimeras for all of them and some vendetta's and just toss in upgrades on them if I need to fill up points. Maybe some Leman Russ's instead seeing as they are cheaper lol.

Without going even more ridiculous on the upgrades that's about the cheapest $$ wise that I can get this list. I guess I could go pure infantry seeing as the chimeras and the vostroyans cost the same amount of money. With tax that comes in at about 375 us. Gota love this hobby : \
