Try a series of linked battles first. Like a pitched battle, followed by the losers fighting a rearguard, followed by the finale of the rearguard game's losers launching an attack on the winner's base.

Use an odd number of scenarios to reduce the chance of having a draw.

Lord of Timbraxia out

Many and varied forces in progress according to waxing & waning whims.

Ok I have started a link of 5 battles in total with Marines vs Guard.
Thanks awb.

I'd advise that each battle would have a tangent effect on a battle that occurs after. This makes it feel like the battles are linked rather separate battles that are using the same army. For example, the winner of battle 1 can outflank one troops choice. The winner of battle 2 can bestow either tank hunters, counter attack, or furious charge on one unit in the army. The winner of battle 3 gains a one game use orbital strike. The winner of battle 4 can redeploy up to two units at the end of deployment.

I hope you get my meaning.

Actions define a person.

I concur with the others. A campaign is like a story, where one battle leads to another or focuses on one aspect/objective of a battlefield.

If you have the rules then linking games of Battlefleet Gothic, followed by Planetstrike, followed by Cities of Death, then using the free Necromunda rules but with a squad or two of similar points values can be great fun & follows a progression for a planetary invasion style of campaign for example.

Campaigns are best when they are mixed up. Try varying points sizes as well, I find small games of 40k to be even more fun than bigger ones somethimes. Experiment and have fun.

I agree with Warspawned
play some small engagements to begin with and gradually increase the points value.
There are some good ideas on page ___ of the rulebook
If it's your first time I would suggest playing that, then the next time you can alter it up to make it more fun,

Orks 1500 points (deathskull/speedfreaks army)
Sisters of battle 1000 points (order of the turquoise rose)

Perhaps first design some background for the battle, then you can design some battles. Perhaps use the tile map thing GW released a wile ago, and work with that?

Ooops didnt notice the necro, Apologies. man nearly 6 months since the last actual post..
