Has anyone got anything that's sure to work with no complications. I've heard horror stories about purity seals so I'm asking what's the best thing to use? If anything.

I use 2 coats of Humbrol brush on Gloss Cote and then I take the shine off with Testors Dullcoat, it should protect them from bumps and scrapes

I use two coats of Testors sealer depending on the look I desire. I use Testors flat for terrain and models that I want to have a muted dull look; Testors semi-gloss for almost all of my marines- good protection and very limited adjustment tf the colors I am protecting and I rarely use Testors gloss cote for models that I want to shine- Venerable dreads and Veteran marines come to mind. Hope this helps!

+1.
The PU Gloss will give maximum protection, the matt will soften the shininess.

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).

Be aware that the two varnish layers change the colours considerably, esp. metallics. The other colours will get darker and paint differences are reduced (important for drybrushing/layering). Being a painter first and a gamer second, I therefore don't varnish the models.

Kroothawk makes a very good point. My highlighting is done much brighter than I would want it to look because once I apply a coat or two of Testors DullCote it ends up looking like I want it to.
