Hi Dakka!
got stuck into painting a battlesuit earlier today and have come across a problem which i had forgotten about when painting minis, marks left from the oil/sweat on my fingers and hands, it would seem its causing a problem such as rubbing off/smudging paint, and making it hard to paint on some surfaces.
anyone else have this problem? if so, any suggestions? personally i dont want to end up wearing latex gloves while painting, hate the feel of them and the powder gets all over the place.
Thanks
~Shas'verlis

Put blue-tack under the base of your model, and attach it to an unused/empty paint bottle. Then, just hold the paint bottle instead of the model whilst you paint.

forbino, yeah, could try that, but latex gloves + a destructive 2 year old do not a good time make

So don't give the gloves to the 2 year old
Levity aside,
Gloves and a clamp arrangement to hold the model rather than you hand holding it are your best options to get around the fingerprint issues.

I do the same thing except I just attach my minis to whatever I have available such as plastic bottle caps or wine corks.. Whenever I finish off a bottle of pop or something, I just toss the lid/cap into a jar and save them for my painting bases. Renew reuse recycle and all that =P
Wine corks are awsome though, because they are longer they give you a bit more to hold onto.. Also when youre done you can crumble it up and use it for rocks/rubble on your bases. ;D

Use a pin vise to drill a hole in one of the model's feet and use a wire to attach it to a cork base. When you are done painting you can use the wire to mount it to it a permanent base.

I use a dab of hot glue to fix the model to a bit of foam board.

Um crazy idea i know, but why not just hold the base? easy to turn and your not smudging/dirtying the paint job. Or have i completely misunderstood what the problem is?

@Trollhammaren: The base on some, models can get in the way of painting detail in tight spaces.
Use a piece of long stiff wire through the bottom of a foot to hold it, the wire can be bent to all kind of angles in order to be out of the way, and then be cut short to pin the model to it's base after painting.
