When makeing an army, the army list and the army...wich goes 1st?
i tend to build what i want then put it in to an army list and add. i like background so i offten choose expenceive stuff to go with my army's style. in the past ive had a load of modles and just picked what i wanted for that batttle.
to me writeing an army list 1st just seems a bit to- mechanical.
would love to hear how others go about chooseing and picking

I usually make a series of army lists, ranging from 500-2000 points, and usually scaling into eachother.

Once I'm happy with it I start buying models to complete it. That gives me something to work towards the next points level.

This way I ensure that I'm using lists that I like, that I'm not buying models that I'll never use- thus wasting precious cash, and it keeps me focused on one army for a while.

That said, my Eldar army is starting to look pretty complete, and I'll probably take a more model oriented approach to any future armies I'll make. IE taking a more artsy approach to the game, and trying to do cool conversions for Ork and Chaos.

By this I mean I'll pick out a few cool models and conversions that I want to do, then build an army list around them.

Xom finds this thread hilarious!

I build a list, then start getting units on it. Then get distracted by other, shinier new units. Then get angry and go back to my planned list. Then find an entirely new shiny army to play. Then wonder why I've got a dozen half-finished armies and none of them can field what I want to field for this particular game....

Im only at about 1400 right now, but ive planned out a 2500 point list. I guess it helps plan on what you're going to spend so you can save as much as possible.

1,500

I usually make a list first. Even if I'm thinking up pieces just for display/modeling, I still go for a list first.

Always start with the list first.

Although I have broken that rule more than once just by walking into my FLGS or GW and thinking "Holy S**t, those mini's are ace, gotta have 'em!"

When this happens I have to work the list around the unit that I bought on a whim......

Its difficult, but it happens alot......
