Red skinned Orks from Golgotha


This my Ork blog with a twist; Red skins! They are based on the Orks out of Steve Parker's novel Gun heads, In which a imperial guard detachment is coursed into landing on the lost planet of Golgotha, a former imperial stronghold. Now overrun by Ghazghkull Thraka after the 2nd war for Armageddon, in a bid to steel back Yaricks beloved baneblade the Fortress of arrogance.

Because of the planets unique combination of elements the surface is covered in a fine red dust like sand called the 'fines'. The individual grains of these vast deserts are so small they they can enter pours on a human causing organ failure and often death. Suffers of this illness are often marked by the reddening of the skin as the pours slowly block up.

Having control of Golgotha for so long the Orkz have been affected in there own way. Being on the whole more sturdy than hummies the Orks tend not to die from the fines but a massive change in the colour of there skin is apparent, ranging from bright red with the little grots through to a browny black in the more bigger older Orks.

Why i chose to do this army and why i chose to do it red!

Well in the past I have been a staunch bulwark of the imperial war machine, as a younger gamer i had over 150 marines and accompanying tanks, bikes, dreads etc, and recently i got back into the game due to a broken leg and lots of spare time, and my army of choice was guard (also inspired by the novel Gunheads ). And after doing a few custom leman russ tanks i soon became board by the order the building required, although iv'e not lost the taste for my tanks. So one night i was overcome by the need for ramshackle building and my inner mek was released!

Now, Obviously you can see that my hobby has been some what influenced by one book, so not wanting to do the green Orks every one else has and needing a theme it was an obvious choice. And so the Red Tide was born.

So i'm a keener builder rather than painter but i am trying to keep up with myself on this one and keep on top of my unpainted models, so although this blog leans to one side i hope both areas of the hobby are represented. I also hope to add some play in at a later date when my army is slightly more realised.

As you've probably cottoned on i like my vehicles, so the 1st few pages are some complete scratch builds and trying to decide on a paint scheme (which iv'e done thanks to the people of dakka). After that it moves onto a more troopy, bikey, chopper area which i'm currently on. Enjoy!

So I've started an ork army basedon the ork out of gunheads, a novel by Steve parker were the planet is covered in a red dust so fine it turned the orks red.
Found some old models and started on my 1st truck.

Thanks! It started out on the back of a bugie but I decided that would be better used as a choppa or copta or whatever

Interesting concept, kinda like the idea.

Trukk looks awesome.

Trukk finnished! Maybe could do with some weathering but otherwise pretty happy with this. Took two days but it's probably the 1st the model I've started off and Finnished straight away.

I'm liking the trukk, the scratch build of the face on the front and the exhaust is excellent, dig the yellow colour too, good job.

Thanks! Yeah, i though so, i've had ideas of doing different coloured ever since some mention blue ice ork from fantasy at my old club. But the book is good and explains the lack of green well. pity i cant take creddit.

Yes! I allready have put rust all over the meta, only rust paint though. Definitely needs mud! Red mud!

Started on the whirlwind trukk and sort was going to make it taller and put a turret on the flat side, make it really orky, but I really don't like it. I'm thinking just make it longer like the old American ifv m11 or whatever it's called.
What do you think?

Haha cheers mate! im going to need some more boys soon i reckon.

Did some painting, I like looters fluff but I don't think the blue goes, might call them bombers, with looters fluff but mad about rocket because thats the weapon I'm going to use muost. That and burnners. Seem the best ork guns, those and kustom mega blasters.

Just scored 20 old school Boyz of the bay for less than £4!! Bargain.

Cheers! Can't do much atm as I've run out of glue! focus on my painting. Tried doing red dust and mud on the trukk.

I gotta say, this is honestly a really cool idea... I've never seen Orks done in anything but green! It actually looks good! I thought about doing mine in brown but was worried they would look too much like boot leather The red skin idea is very, very original and well done, and those custom built vehicles look great! Definitely giving me some inspiration on how to properly "loot" the junk tanks I've got lying around the workbench!

Cheers! I got the idea from a book, so I can't take all the credit aha. I saw some albino orks in the gallery, they were pretty cool, stood out a lot. Also some really good looted rhinos in there, have a look.

Settled on a paint scheme, inspired by my trainers of all things!

Hey, inspiration may have played a part, but you totally could have borked it up instead of pulling it off as well as you did! The orange actually fits well on the infantry, and IMO, would look great alongside any use of Boltgun Metal or any of the 4 different copper paints that are in the palette

Haha yeah true, i could of botched it quite bad. yeah defiantly, used rust and brown ink on the boltgun metal, sort of copperish aha.

Any idea what you're going to call the warband?

"Da Big Red Waaagh!" would be a funny play on "The Big Red One", the rather famous US Infantry Division and the film of the same name

Sat down at the desk today and planned to put some PK on some boyz and da boss, and finnish the bull. Did some minor work on the trukk but then got totally destracted and built a deffkopta!
