Hi,
finally found a painting scheme for my Dark Eldar. Still testing details and working on the background story.

Painting:

Started with finding a good metallic blue acrylic paint (Tamiya X-13), modified with a coat of Badab Black to give an iridescent colour. Added standard D&D Drow (Dark Elf) attributes like hormagaunt purple skin, white hair and liche purple cloth. Dark Light and everything energetic is coloured Vallejo Model Colour Jade Green (also a discontinued Citadel colour). Second and third metal colours are Tin Bitz and Dwarf Bronze, mostly for weapons and engines.

Start of the background:

Szith Morcane (name borrowed from a Drow city from the D&D adventure City of the Spider Queen) is an old pirate city in the webway, not as big as Commorragh, but well known as the home of the dark skinned Eldar, the Drow. It is ruled by House Morcane. Its ethnic homogenity helped in keeping Szith Morcane independent from the influence of Commorragh. They raided several times in Salamander territory and became known as the Dusk-Wraiths of Szith Morcane ("Dusk-Wraith" ancient Salamander name for Dark Eldar according to the novel Firedrake).

Here pics of the first vehicle of the army. Still working on getting a clean layer of inks on large surfaces (Tamiya colour is very smooth).
Realized after chosing the colours, that the painting scheme is closer to the Codex cover art than GW's own colour schemes.

I like it. Good colour scheme. I also like the flat armour plates as seen in the picture, the slight streak of ink breaks up the plates and made me think of a shadow field.

Actually, I will include several often prepainted non-GW miniatures for this army, esp. for the beastmaster.

This will become the Khymera, a D&D Displacer beast and obviously the inspiration for the Khymera:

Displacer Beast D&D Miniatures (has nice metallic violet colour nin real life)::

Displacer beast, Chainmail Minatures:

Displacer Beast Pack Lord D&D Miniatures:

Razorwing flock (yes, the rules don't say flying):

Swarm of Spiders, D&D Miniatures:

Alternatively Demonweb Swarm, D&D Miniatures:

Clawed Fiend:

Draegloth Abomination, D&D Miniatures:

Having a Drow theme, lumbering meat zombies don't fit. I use these as Wracks:

Storm Arachn, AT-43:

Here some models that will become alternative Haemunculi:

Drider-themed: Wyrd Miniatures Steamborg - Executioner Class (may also double as Clawed fiend)

Only as off-game mastermind, as too big for games: Rezolution Grimalkin:

Cryx Allies Cephalyx Overlords, Warmachine:

Tion Medon, Star Wars Miniatures:

Yuuzhan Vong Shaper, Star Wars Miniatures:

More ideas will follow.

Haha as a Morrowind fan i was initially tempted to do mine as Dunmer.

Great ideas all round. Not 100% on the raider, without seeing more pics of other units i wont know if it is just an unflatterring photo.

As an aside, that 'Jade' colour you have done the splinter barrels and gemstones in is a truly beautiful colour. What rang is it from.
EDIT: Vallejo, whoops

Love the hull's colour, realistic and mysterious. Not a fan of the decals on the sail, I think they're a little corny. But hey, to each his own.

While Grimalkin might be a wee bit big for infantry, he'd make a kickin' Talos/cronos...

Infinity: Way, way better than 40K and more affordable to boot!
