I've always wondered, after seeing several guard players in my own gaming cliche, how often do I see non-cadian/non-catachan regiments when playing against players I know or just complete strangers. My regular opponents collect Krieg and renegade imperial guard (so it's often Vraks battles), but I myself collect multiple guard regiments. However outside of my regular opponents, I've recalled that I've only ever gamed with one standard Cadian player, pretty much all other guard players that I've either gamed with have either old metal regiments (praetorian, mordian and valhallan) or are custom regiments using Cadian kitbashes with some using 3rd party bitz like Pig Iron heads etc.

So, out of curiosity, what Guard regiments do you frequent across the gaming table?

The only other guard player I know has a mix of Tallarns & Praetorians. I've currently got mostly Cadians, but am in the process of replacing them with Necromundans (it takes a while....)

In the grim darkness of the far future, there are only rules disputes.

I'm the only one who fields Catachans at my FLGS, but I also use WGF Shock troopers and Cadian HWTs.

Everyone I know who plays Guard at my LFGS is Cadian, although everyone uses a unique scheme. Myself included.

I'm sadly the only real guard player at my FLGS and I use a heavily kitbashed airborne guard built from SM scouts, Cadians, Catachan bits, some other TAC marine bits and pig iron heads.

The only other guard player pretty much uses only tanks, it's rare to see his two cheapo squads come out of the Chimeras

One of my buddies in CT runs Cadian 8th, and in Boston I game with a guy who runs a kitbashed Catachan/Cadian army. I run a fairly even divide between Cadian, Catachan, and Steel Legion.

At another club nearby there's at least 1 tallarn and praetorian guy and one DKoK guy, another catachan and cadian

EDIT 2: most have unique schemes, myself included

I use the cadian models as a starting point. But i dont use any of the paint schemes that the cadian use. I just like the sci-fi look of the cadians compared to the rambo look of the catachens.

- 27th Virginian, Steel Legion mixed with Cadians,Valhallans,Catachans flavoured with Dixie style army (me). It's a thing I make for fun, with confederate flag etc. one Leman Russ even has the 01 symbol of General Lee It's funny to ride it in battles/campaigns.
- Krieg

I was wondering to add some units from Pig Iron lately, they have a exquisite range.

I've bought my last models from GW on October 10th, 2011. Since then I've bought none, I am against their price policy. Screw them.

Well, i field The Cadian 77th/Catachan 49th Army group with integrated Vostroyans whose regiment was all but destroyed during their first drop, so i use them as a platoon (and a squad of 5 for storm troopers). Other then that, everyone else at my store runs mech guard while i run a primarily infantry/artillery list.

I use my Tvashtan 422nd. They hail from a volcanic deathworld and are painted shadow grey/black/mechrite red. They use cadian pattern equipment.

I also have about thirty metal valhallan models that I use as penal legionnaires.

One of the Guard players uses Cadian models but paints them an obnoxious gold colour...and the other Guard player uses models from non-GW ranges and runs them as the Haplessville PDF. I run Mordians, so a decent mix.

the haplessville PDF are a mix of cadian HW teams, warzone, WGF, and assorted other randoms for commanders, psykers, etc.

I think there's 2 more cadian players at the store in town, but i could be wrong.
