Hey guys been thinking about a 1k sons army for a while as i adore the models. I thought that i would have a go at making a little list for them for 1500 pts.

Im not really thinking of it being a mega competitive list but i dont want it to be rubbish either, just decent but with all the models i love! aka Dreads, 1k sons marines and Terminators.

Basically the list has all my fave models from the Chaos range. If i do this force i plan to convert it to the max and make it my pride and joy. Including doing all the headpieces for the dreads and termies.

anyways heres my basic outline of a list.

Chaos Sorcerer - 110 pts
Doombolt.

1K Sons squad 1 - 243 pts
1 sorcerer doombolt 6 marines
Mounted in chaos Rhino.

1K Sons squad 2 - 228 pts
1 sorcerer, wind of chaos 6 marines

10 chaos space marines 215 pts.
1 aspiring champion with power weapon.
Mounted in rhino.


1K Sons terminators - 235 pts
1 Terminator Champion
4 Terminators
All armed with chainfists

Chaos Land raider - 220 pts

2 chaos Dreadnoughts 250 pts
Lascannon and dreadnought close combat weapon.

1501 pts.

My reckoning is that the Unmounted sons and the dread can clamber forward firing at things and causing a bit of havoc while the other squads race forward and engage the enemy.

I want the Chaos space marine squad to be armed with Bolt pistols and close combat weapons so they can jump out and charge into combat to support the terminators who are also designed to do the same thing and knock out tanks with the chainfists, they will be mounted in the land raider naturally.

Thoughts??

give the sorcerer MoT, reduce the 10 man squad to about 7 as no point having 10 without the special weapons and instead have a plasma or melta gun. Dreadnought would be better with a heavy bolter because you need anti-horde plus if it does shot you wouldn't do much at all. Both Thousand Sons squad need rhinos so can get in rapid fire range ASAP. and the Chaos space marines come with bolters, CC weapons and bolt pistols any way

The 10 CSM were sposed to be a close combat unit but yeah i can see what your saying about having them with special weapons as they come with other CCWs anyways.

How do you think the list would do on the field?? i know its not great but all the other lists ive seen with 1K Sons all have Obliterators and i just dont like the models.

on the table try a refused flank but deploy opposite the side with the best armour save o make the most of the AP3 bolters and lascannons on the land raider. Have the dreadnoughts next to a rhino so if they do shot anything all they shoot is a 35pt rhino not marines or the land raider

Just a point (and feel free to ignore it, many do, as it doesn't technically give you any advantage)
I like the troops to be in unit sizes in accordance to their 'sacred number' in Tzeentch case, its 9. the only possible advantage it can give you is maybe the dice gods will favour you

I think with any 1K Sons list, its all about the models. With your list how it is, i'm not sure how well you can really do with it. I think sittnig back and hoping for the best is the best option here. You've got 4 long range AT, which isn't very much, but might help a bit. With your termiantors, i wouldn't have 5 Chainfists, maybe 2. And really all the squads need a rhino i think, even if you are going to leave the squad out of the transport.

I'd recommend a squad of Oblits over the Dreads. My Thousand Sons army had Oblits but I used Terminator Sorcerer Lords instead of the official models. They're an underrated HS choice, definately worth it though even though they will eat your points. Thousand Sons only really shine brightly at 2,000 pt games imo.

There are no sacred numbers anymore. That was removed from the fluff, or at least it was left out. I never liked, in the previous codex, feeling compelled to take cult troops in sacred number sized squads.

I don't really see where the 'fluff' comes in w/ this list. You have 3 units w/ a Mark - the Sorc doesn't even have a MoT!? As Putrid One said, give the Sorc MoT & either Wind of Chaos or Bolt of Tzeentch. You don't need 5 chainfists on the Termies, @ most 2 & throw 2-3 combi-melta's in there. And TS's really need Rhino's. Foot slogging them will never get them anywhere. Realistically, if a squad is small enough to fit in a Rhino, it needs to be in a Rhino. Rodgers37 also has a good point about the respective god's sacred # - make the TS squads 9 man units, you'll find they're far more survivable this way. Also, if you want a troop unit for assaulty goodness, you should ditch the standard CSM squad for a squad of 8 Zerkers.

Personally, I think Chaos Dreads are very 'meh', but its your army, so if they make you happy go for it. Just be prepared for the day that your Dreads go into 'Fire Frenzy' & pop your LR full of Termies.. I don't like the Obliterator models either, so I converted my own, but they are w/o doubt the best heavy support unit in our codex, imo. Two wound terminators that have a weapon for any & all situations.

Well, you already got good advice.
I'd take a winged DP w/ MoT and doombolt,
2 TS units in Rhinos incl. Sorcerer w/ doombolt,
a small CSM unit to ride in the LR,
deep striking Termies w/ combi-weapons and 2 pf's.

Dreads w/ lascannons are a gamble as they might shoot your units. I'd give them cc weapons only.

I don't blame you rogerio for not liking oblits, I don't really like them either and i'm not sure they give you as much bang for your buck as havoc squads, and frankly, predators are nothing to laugh at and actually pose huge threats to a lot of forces. In almost every bat rep i read, oblits give a mediocre performance. They maybe get a shot or two off before they are plastered in assault or brought down by fire.

There's a CSM player in my FLGS who fields a predator to great effect and it seems to always earn back its points.

@Hemmingway, i will defo consider taking a predator with some Lascanons on it for anti-tank as i do certainly love tanks very much!

I just cant stomach the use of Oblits as the models are terrible. I like Samrtk`s idea about using Sorcerers as Oblits but i still am not keen on them.

As has been mentioned i could use Berzerkers in the army. I am going to convert all models to have 1Ksons headgear anyway and convert everyone to look all snazzy and egyptian. So i could use berzerkers and convert them to look like 1k sons, possibly in a post heresy but pre rubric era theme???
