When using a markerlight as a fire support measure, does the unit firing still get to fire their weapons, or would that be considered 2 shots from the same unit? From my understanding, the Markerlight is used to lase the target in this situation, allowing a "vehicle" to provide fire support for the fire warriors/pathfinders with 1 Seeker Missile per Markerlight hit. In this case, will the vehicle and infantry unit still be able to fire as they normally would if the seeker missile hadn't been fired?

The Pathfinder unit counts as having fired its weapons. You could have half the unit shoot with carbines and half with markerlights if you liked.
The vehicle which fired the missile doesn't not count as having shot since the missiles are triggered by the markerlight, not by the individual vehicle. This is covered in the Tau codex rules on seeker missiles, which I don't have at hand.

Yea i read my digital copy of the codex, didn't quite get it...but then again it was 4:45am when I read it so yea....
Only the leader of both my fire warrior squads (12 man)and the leader of my pathfinder squad (8 man) have markerlights, so i could markerlight using the leaders and have the other 11 guys fire regularly?

All pathfinders have marker lights, fyi, not just team leads. They only loose them if they change out for a rail rifle.
Unless you mean only the leader has a target lock, thus allowing him to target a different unit...
You'll soon find Seeker Missles a waste of points as you have to roll twice to hit with them, and then still roll to wound (once for the marker light, then once again for the missle). At 10 points a pop, having to make 3 rolls is far to risky for my blood (5 seeker missle shots only ever caused one glancing hit, and I wasn't exactly shooting at AV 14/2+ save stuff).

Ya I'm confused about that. All pathfinders start with carbines and marker lights you don't have to buy them seperatly. You only lose them if you buy rail rifles. I don't think you can give you whole squad railrifles but I don't have my codex on hand and you shouldn't use railrifles anyway :p

that's good to know, i didn't know that all pathfinders come default with markerlights, that's pretty sweet. What would you spend the points on instead of the seeker missiles? i have a total of 40 pts out of my army going towards seeker missiles, 2 per hammerhead. You can look at my army list if you want its a 2500pt Tau list of course in the 40k army lists forum
