Gameplay wise, background wise or what?

Generally, the pendulum swings (even if it takes years) for gameplay anyway.

Seeing you have a Wraithlord avatar and Eldar ranking title, you'll probably be happier in the long run going for them rather than going for something you like less visually but want to try playing them.

Well, For ELDAR, I have a WS and the Sear Council.
And Chaos Demons I have 20 bloodletters and 1 skulltaker, dp and SG.
But like, what is each army good for and bad for????

The thing about eldar and daemons is that they are good for everything, but they are also bad for everything. If you look through the codex for both you will find that every unit is specialized toward a certain role, and pales at most other roles. I don't play either, so I can't give you hard and fast inherent weakness and strengths, but both armies have units that are designed to be dead 'ard at what they do, and not very flexible for doing much else.

Daemons are going to suffer if you play a lot of tournaments because of people playing GKs. On the other hand Eldar will be fairly strong for a while because of people playing GKs.

I love demons, I own 4-5k pts worth. But the thing is they are tactically limited. You always have to deploy a certain way, and not always the way you want. You are limited in your anti tank, somewhat limited in the customizability of your units, and a lot of the strong builds revolve around HQs which cost an arm and a leg and are vulnerable to all the stupid *model removed from play* crap floating around.

The one thing I thik daemons have over eldar is a variety of builds that are decent. I can think of only two eldar lists I would want to run right now, I can think of 4-5 daemon lists. Also if daemons drop any further in popularity most people won't think to build against or plan out tactics for them so you'll have the element of surprise.

Either one is going to take a lot of skill and sound decisions to do well with. Eldar is probably going to have more tournament success for awhile (until the GK bandwagon cools off) but they are close enough build whichever one you like.

So are they both similar?
Just asking: Someone told me that Demons are more of a CC army and Eldar is more of a shooting army, but they could be wrong. Would you like to know what I have for both armies as I started to collect Chaos Demons but than decided to go to Eldar but now re-thinking which army to collect and I probs wouldn't do toraments.

One heads up for you that a lot of people (anyone who plays daemons competitively) will agree with me on is that you should take soul grinders OR daemon princes for your heavies: don't mix and match. The problem with soul grinders (despite being one of the most gorgeous models GW has ever made) is that this is a melta-friendly meta game and they are your only armor models. Your opponents will kill them quickly. However 3 will at least force your opponent to split fire a bit and one may survive. Princes have a lot more survivability but are going to usually be more expensive. Daemons were my first 40k army and I've won almost every game I've played with them: in my area (because of my playstyle) they are listed as the cheesiest/most broken army of all-even ahead of blood angels.

Daemons are a close combat based army, and as such should be run that way. Shooting should only be used as an add on, not a main driving force-for this reason I believe Tzeentch lists (except fateweaver and flamers) to be incredibly weak. Nurgle is too slow, other than the princes which are great (S5, 2+ poison is great against anything), Khorne allows no saves ever (except hounds) and slaanesh is fast and is your best bet at killing tanks (everything slaaneshi has rending).

I haven't used eldar much, but it is a lot more of a shooting army. I recommend daemons, but then again I am biased. If you want to do a CC army, daemons are your best bet. If you want a shooty army, stay away from them-the result wouldn't be pretty. Hope this helps

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

So really, it doesn't matter which one?

Well, it DOES..Eldar have great tanks and shooting, are more tactically diverse and have a wider choice of units. In CC they tend to get smashed, but they have hit-and-run to prevent that.

Deamons have Eternal Warrior-so no instant death-and can be beastly in CC. They have ok shooting, but they are tactically quite limited, and while they have invunerable saves, they're all quite squishy. They are restricted in the way they deploy, and all that DSing can be risky. Lastly, GK's have been developed to be pretty much a hard counter for deamons in 40k-but on the upside, you can use the same army in Fantasy, where they are much more respected.

If I were you, I'd choose Eldar...or Orcs...or Marines...

Eldar are by far more competitive than Daemons. /thread

They don't really get squished in CC, you just have to play it like DE combat; don't charge TH/SS Termies with Banshees, or just use some logic.

Not really true if you take Khornate Daemons, they can more than stand up to the GK. But at the end of the day you should go with the army you like best. Be that for fluff reasons, or because the models look cool!

Good choice i think with the new 5th edition power codices the Eldar play a little better with the speed and should have a newer codex sooner.

and that's fine, because it's the current codex. and when Daemonhound says 'sooner', he just means before daemons do. It's quite likely Eldar still won't see a new codex for over a year, imo.

What do you want? shooting or CC

my friend said that eldar are "glass cannons" they can shoot the hell out of stuff but in CC they will break.

deamons are strong in CC and very different to any other army in my view. which one do you like the look of? then what play style?

well i see you have choosen. I would have choosen eldar too.

Reasons: I have a Gk army
I love fire power LOL

Now, everyone mentions GK, may I ask what are GK's without useing big words. And I would rather shooting, and I take it they are good in CC aswell as shooting?
