Sooo I've been out of the country on business for about 7 months now, and I'll be home soon and want to start playing Tau again. I made a 2500pt list just for kicks...any suggestions are GREATLY appreciated considering I'm rusty cuz I haven't played in a while. Here's what I got so far:

Theres kinda a lot of useless junk on some of your units.

Iridium armor isn't worth the reduction in movement, you don't want to make your assault move unreliable.

Bonding knives are never worth it IMO, especially in suits. In order to ever use it you'd have to lose only 2 suits, and fail a leadership test, at which point the single suit isn't going to be all that useful anyway. I haven't brought a BK in years, and haven't ever regretted it.

Failsafe detonator, also not worth the points. If you're in close combat you're already toast.

Your Battlesuit configs are a little funky and Twinlinking anything on an 'O is not worth it, you're already BS 5. Save 15pts, drop him to an 'El and get a Target array. Same Balistic skill, which is the only important stat.

EMP grenades are overpriced and on a unuseable platform. Firewarriors/pathfinders charging a tank just doesn't work.

Kroot shapers are overpriced, and you really don't need armor on the kroot. Keep em cheap and get more bodies instead.

Put a Disruption pod on the Devilfish.

Gun Drones squadrons should only be taken for free off of Piranha squads. 6 Drones doesn't do much and are an easy KP.

Seekers are best when on Piranha or Skyrays, on Hammerheads... meh. Hammerheads are already a big enough target without extra points thrown into them.

Broadsides should only have Multitrackers if they also have TL Plasma. With SMS, taking Target arrays or Stabilization is a better choice.


You have a ton of points you could free up, and buy another unit or two. Hope that helps.

Okay, a few things.

I would dumb-down your commander and his bodyguards. I'd suggest making them all fireknives as well, just bare-bone fireknives.

Your elites suits are illegal. Only the team leader can take wargear. Once again, I would suggest doing bare-bones crisis suit, and then taking a Team-Leader with a TA. Also, at this points level, all your crisis suits should be doing what crisis suits do best. Don't take troop killers, take heavy-infantry killers. Your fire warriors and kroot will kill the light-infantry. You need your crisis suits to take down the heavy units.

I would suggest making them all bladestorms and fireknives.

With a ML on your fire warriors, I'm assuming you're gun-lining them? That's okay, but I find that gun-line Tau don't do as well as mech Tau. (This is opinion is based on expirience... it could simply be my Meta) I'd suggest getting rid of the MLs... but you don't have to.

Take the EMP nades off of your pathfinders. You should get pathfinders solely for MLs. At these points, I'd suggest a second pathfinder unit.

For freeing up points, I'd get rid of both Gun-drone units. They are fun (and can work well) but I think there are more valuable things to spend points on.

Get rid of both hammerheads and get maxed out broadside teams. At points above 2000, you need 9 broadsides. Most Tau players would agree with this statement.

Also, the 6+ save on Kroot is pointless for many reasons. I'd suggest getting rid of it for more kroot.

Broadsides should never get MTs. They should either get A.S.S. or TAs. Also, I'd get a Team Leader w/ 2 SDs to keep your unit alive - and possibly a BK.

There's a lot of comments I didn't include, but you can see them in the changes i made in the list. (Btw, bladestorm is PR + BC, it is cheaper than a fireknife and surpasses it in most things)

A BIG thank you to both Creeping Dementia and The Bringer. That is A LOT of helpful advice. Also thanks to The Bringer for making that example list. I have just recently heard of kitting out a devilfish to make it a warfish...what all does that entail?

it seems that you have already gotten some really good help, but yeah, the 6+ save on the kroot is really useless, their are almost no weapons with ap-, and a 6+ in cc isn't all that helpful, speaking as a tyranid player

Yea, 2 of my best friends that I started playing the game with, one of them plays Tau as well, but he lives halfway across the country cuz i moved, and the other one is where i moved to. The friend where I moved has 7500pts of Tyranids so I kinda know where you're coming from as far as the CC stuff because I scrimmage him alot in matches.
