So i've been deefinitely considering investing in the citadel spray gun,(because seeing so many marines that need a coat of Mechrite red is starting to cause me to loose sanity imo) and I'll definitely order it from Maelstrom(because it's 55 bucks here in Aus). I was just wandering if there is any alternative to Citadel's propellant, imho paying 15 dollars for a 400ml can of air is a tad stupid, but if I have to I will. Has to be available from somewhere here in Aus though, otherwise I can't get it.

*edit* I mean that I am looking for an alternative can of air that fits the provided hose.

It's just airbrush propellant.

ANY decent hobby/modelshop in your town (Adelaide, by your profile, HAS several decent hobby shops) - especially if they have airbrushes.

I'm not overly familiar with Adelaide (I've been there once, for a weekend, in 1989). I'd start my searches here though:

Given that it is essentially a REBADGED Badger (Rebadgered?) single-action airbrush, you should be able to get the cans through a local store, too.

Like all other GW non-miniatures stuff, it's just a rebadged product from someone else. The aerosol can fitting should be a standard one for a can, as the cans ALL have the same design.

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).

Alternatively, you could invest in an air compressor. This would save you money in the long run, and would allow you to keep a consistent pressure.

If you do decide to stick with the cans of propellant, one suggestion I've read, is to place the can in a container of room temperature water while using it. While using any form of a spray can(spray paints, hair spray, air freshener, compressed air) the pressure inside the can will drop. As this happens the temperature will also drop(rapid decompression causes loss of heat), causing pressure to fall even more(as things get cold, they shrink causing lower pressure). By placing the propellant in water, this will help slow the rate of cooling, and in turn, gives you a more consistent air pressure which gives a nicer finish to the paint.

YAY PHYSICS!!!

Canned propellant- regardless of maker is going to be expensive to use. GW does hammer you with the gamer mark up however.

Badger and Testors both sell propellant for less than hte Citadel variety, and Im fairly certain they all share the same size nozzle on the cans.

If you use more than a couple cans of air, in the long run Id strongly recommend investing in a real airbrush (ebay/amazon for as little as 20$ for a solid model) and then a compressor or a refillable air tank. You'll get better results with your painting, and in the long run save money on both paint and the wasteful propellant cans.
