So the South Australian Goverment is now trying to abolish the MA15+ rating for Video Games.


The article has more info but long story short the Attorney-General John Rau wants to remove MA15+ rating as it is a cross between what acceptable and whats not acceptable.

This is sad news if he actually gets it his way people in South Australia will only allowed to have M rated games.

Hmm interesting. To be fair, in my opinion, removing it will have 0 effect on games purely because if somebody cant get a game for over 15s because it is now an M(over 18s iirc) rated game then they will just ask their parents to get it and 9/10 times they probly would get it.

But im not familiar with Aussie laws so I could be wrong.

No R18 rating here in Australia yet they are still debating over whether or not to have R18 rating.

Thats why its worrying that South Australia might not even have a MA15+ rating.

Ah I see so game that are 18s to the UK would be buyable by 15 year olds and younger??

Man now that would be severly screwed up. But like I said, if a kid wants a game the parent will usually buy it even with ratings in place. Why do you think so many 8-12 year olds play COD:BO.

Its worst unfortunately. Some games cannot be released in Australia unless censored.

Update apparantly South Australian Goverment are replacing MA15+ rating with R18+ rating.

While it may be annoying for those who are under 18 its actually become good news for those who don't like censored gaming..

Being from the United States myself, I'm fairly used to the ESRB rating system we have in place (E, T, M, AO). I think that a 15+ rating on top of an 18+ rating is unnecessarily convoluted, and would be a cause of some unnecessary censorship (unless that's considered your 'Teen' rating).
