Just thought I would get a few opinions on this one from people!


I am building a pre-heresy themed space wolves force.

I have purchased a couple of sets of MK 3 iron armour which I plan to use for my Grey hunters!

I also I have a set of Mk 5 heresy armour which I was thinking of using to do Blood claws with!


What do people think, were older MK's of armour used alongside newer ones in the dark times of the heresy period?

Yeah probably...
Iron armour was good fr boarding actions so it probably would have been used.

yeah that was my thinking.

+ I rather like the look of the Iron armour for "tactical type" marines and heresy for "assault types"

I just over came a butt-load of anxiety after purchasing several squads each of the new Space Marine types. I finally gave in and decided to toss the parts into a bowl and make squads with little bits of all types. This is great for 40k, not so much for 30k.

With that in mind, I saved several Mk III squads as I think most at the time of the heresy were of this type. Mk IV's were not very common, and the Mk V's were made because of the shortages caused by the loss of forge worlds during the Heresy and they were the low point of the technology. The type VI's came after the Heresy, or so I've heard, but I swear I can remember reading about marines donning this type as well... it's too fuzzy to be sure.

Mark VII was brought in after the Heresy, so if you're going for a pre heresy army, stick to marks II-VI. Probably less VI's though.

Honestly, Marines should have different armour types mixed through squads, since a lot of their armour is old hand-me-down stuff.

oo I didnt think about mixed types in squads.. I could imagine that would give them a very individual feel!!
